A little surprised at the OP's message, that and I've heard of Jackie's Clinic for years, but never anything bad. My job in '98 was down the street from the school, and the teachers at the time had no probs with the place. Of course, everytime someone mentions the place, my ears perk up. Never a bad word. So, everyone, please take any complaints about schools on this board with a very large grain of salt. Unless the person who posts it is willing to give over contact info about the people involved, please think about the objectivity of a post that starts with "... My friend works there and ...". Taken out of context, I know, but what is that kind of info really worth?

Hey everyone out there. Ever heard of Jackie's Clinic in Apgujeong? Well, don't work for these people, as they will abuse you and use you. If you like being exploited, then work here. You have to work on Saturdays and the housing sucks. My friend works there and wants to leave after being there for only 2 months. The boss calls after 12 midnight just to tell teachers that parents are complaining. Half the time, they are probably not even complaining. The housing is full of bugs, too. My friend had no hot water for a week. Watch out for this place. If you lke harassment then come here!!!

Thank you.

Here is another post she did on "poly Gangnam", Ring a bell?

Hello everyone!!! Stay away from this school if you like bugs in your apartment and the managemnet is always in your face about things from day one. They tell you your apartment is nice, new and clean, when in fact it is bug infested and actually quite old and ugly. There are no furnishings whatsover. They lie to get you over here. There was no hot water for two weeks in some teachers places. Management just laughed and told people to take cold showers. Nothing in your aprtment EVER gets fixed when you tell them something needs to be repaired. They just make all kiinds of promises they cannot and will not keep. You are expected to prepare for classes an extra 10-15 hours aweek. They say this is paid time in the office but it is not. Beware of this place!!!

Argh...I know we all have our little faults and what have you, but am I the only one who feels sickened everytime there is a post made about anything by PRINCESS...

...the incessant whine - world against me, hard love, sob story never seems to end at all....challenge yourself for fug sakes...

...Stop: watching Jerry McGuire and Bridget Jones, take down all those Unicorn n' rainbow posters, never draw another LOVE HURTS broken heart ever ever again, throw away the Bon Jovi CDs,...for the love of something just get a grip! Evil or Very Mad

for the record...

i'm at jackie's clinic.

i feel like a million bucks. i feel appreciated, supported and accepted by both the staff and the other teachers. so far, philip han has turned out to be nothing but upfront, kind and understanding. generous, even. but - they do expect results.

class sizes are small, curriculum is top-notch (what? an actual curriculum, in a hagwon?!?).

i have never worked a saturday.

my housing is spartan yet comfortable.

the support staff have never called me after 7pm or before 9am.

and - i get paid a hell of a lot of money.

i don't know who your friend was princess... but whoever he/she is, advise him/her that there are ways to deal with being a bedwetting crybaby.

I think this should be enough to settle the debate once and for all. I know of another guy working at this school and he's never had a problem also.

Personally I find most of the things mentioned deal-able, but as for the post-midnight call about parents' complaints, this for me would be an invitation to open war. Nothing short of an axe in ajashi's forehead could make me feel better about being woken in the middle of the night for that. But I never get those calls so..

The main reason I wrote in was because of the question, "where do you see yourself in 3 years time?" I have always found this a dumb question.

I used to be the kind of person who had a plan for his life in 3, 5, 10,15, 25 and 50 years with a clear path to what I had to do to get there. But then although I stuck to it and made great progress, I found I was both miserable and missing opportunities in my own community. I have since found that not looking ahead more than two years tends to keep the best harmony between reality and possibility.

Pierre Boulez was once asked about the future of music and what future music styles would sound like. He said he felt one could not really look more than two years into the future with any insight because anything beyond two years was just an extension of individual fantasy (I'm paraphrasing.) I tend to adopt this view for other careers... My investor is the only one who looks further ahead and he gets commission.

I wish there was a pat answer for that question so I could just memorize it and move on.

Note that The Man known as The Man resuscitated this long-dead thread. Its also clear from casual observation that he seldom fails to pop up in any thread initiated by Princess but only rarely comments in others.

Princess's lovelorn stupidity in other threads is generally a harmless fiction, except maybe when it strayed into tasteless reference to suicide a while ago. Gives all the amateur dear abbys around here a bit of exercise.

Here though (& I know nothing about the school in question) I'm unsettled by the possibility that some anonymous poster's idea of a joke might be unfairly damaging an innocent hagwon's reputation.

Well I heard of a guy from therre that has a big problem. This twit he works with and her crybaby friend Princess Smile

People. The OP's name is Princess. Looks like Princess syndrome is a serious condition in two countries. I imagine Princess will fit in perfectly here.

I like princess. Why are you guys taking the piss out of her? Hey- at least she doesn't write nasty stuff about other posters. I don't even know if she's around anymore to defend herself. Anyway, I did hear a year ago from someone that that school was bad, but that was a year ago, and I don't remember what the deal was . Usual hakwon stuff.

ok - for the record i'm finishing my 3rd year at jackie's clinic.

and beyond a few disagreements of how to cater to pretentious apkujeong moms and how they want to get their little wangjas into harvard -

NOTHING bad has happened. nothing.

anyone who complains about this school is a princess with a fucking pea under their mattress. you really cannot go wrong. it's a hagwon job, and wages-wise it's one of the best you'll ever get in korea.

everyone please shut up.

this is so funny b/c i also work at jackie's clinic and love it, have worked there off and on for many yrs. the sad fact is the poster must be some kind of disgruntled person who didn't inform the staff that his apt had problems. we have a ton of return staff, an awesome boss, great kids who are near native speakers, and virtually no planning. sure we live in small apts but we live in sinsadong so wtf? i have never been called by staff about parents, never. the fact is: if you do a good job, get along with the kids, TEACH, and show up on time, there are no problems. i have lots of friends who've worked in other hagwons in korea. guess what? they're working at Jackie's now and they love it:)
