I agree with the posters who think there's something not right about the 10 month contract. I'd pass on that one. Please let us know how it turns out.

I think you're right, Margaret. Very Happy I'm going in for this hagwon position. Ready to depart next week. It still feels surreal! The whole process was really fast. Shocked

Public schools have about 30-40 students per class.

Hagwons have 4-12 students per class.

If you're a first-time teacher, you may find smaller classes easier to handle.

Thanks for your advice! In fact, I made up my mind on Hagwon position.

Good luck with it, and just remember to have some spine. If they think you're really afraid of losing your job, they can cantrol and ruin your life. If they think you're not afraid to quit or get sacked, if things ever come to a head, you've got the upper hand.

I wouldn't put too much trust in the Board of Education. They hired me but after I arrived told me that they didn't know if there was enough money in the budget to pay for my furniture (as per my contract) ...apparently they'll find out in June when the budget comes out. After talking to the principal and two officials at the provincial education office, the school administrator finally took on the risk and offered to buy the furniture himself.

well, i'm glad to hear that the furniture situation worked out for you. thanks for your sharing the story!
