Question for F visa holders.
how long do we have to report a change of address before a fine is issued? |

I informed them that I had a different address about three years after the fact(I had an E-2, but had changed to an F-2-1 and kept the same card). The agent was shocked, but I received no fine. They never send me anything anyway. The last thing I received was a text message telling me that my F-2-1 was going to expire in a month's time. I think the address on my card is my last hakwon's address and I've never actually lived at that address, although I now have my current address written on the back of the card. |

Not just F-visa holders but E2's & in fact all residents of Korea are required to report a change of address to their gu-office or local city hall within one month. Failure to do so is subject to a fine but I dont think its commonly imposed. |

you sure it could be done at the local city hall? I was under the impression I had to go back to immigration to fill out the paper work. |

T-dot, you don't have to tell immi that you've changed your address.
Just go to your dong-office (dong samusoh) and tell them, so they can change your ARC as well. |

It has to be done at the gu office, not the dong office. |

But what about immigration? And what about F5s? |

Really. At the time I got that card(I think '02), I didn't actually know my address...I knew where I lived but couldn't tell you the particulars(like and postal code). So, I just gave them the address on my new business cards. They never asked anything else, so I assumed there was no problem with the info I provided. I am now aware that you have to fill out a change of address form(maybe it's part of that "Change or Addition to Status of Sojourn form?). But, I didn't know then. As I said, the lady at the Boo-sahn immigration office seemed very surprised(and maybe a bit pissed) that I had changed addresses at least three years before; but, I told her the truth. If they had've been on the ball, they probably could've found out easily that there were actually no people living at the address that I gave. I honestly didn't know that it could've been an issue. I guess I could've told them that I moved there a month before(lied). Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I was already registered(through my wife) at the Goo Office for the address that is now on the back of my card. Maybe they should ask more or better questions and maybe have some of the branches of gov't working together and sharing info a little more? |

May be it's different for you guys, then.
My husband's always just changed our address at the dong office, and change mine at the same time. |
