Is this common??? Were all kind of shocked. We had to show a clean bill of health copy from home before we were even hired. Weve only been here for 5-months. Please let me know if this has ever happened. We work for the Chungbuk gov't, there are 10 of us.

Please help with your opinions!!!!

I haven't heard of it before, but I don't see anything to be shocked about. Pee in the cup and cough a couple of times. And if all 10 go together, the first one can warm up the stethoscope for the other 9.

No clue as to why they'd need another one, but health checks are pretty standard for public schools and stuff. The full check up will probably cost around 30-40,00) and it sounds like you all should ask the boss to pay for it. ( paying for one is acceptable, but if they're asking for another so soon.. )

By 'work for the government' do you mean work at public schools. This sort of thing is quite common. As long as they're paying for it, who cares?

It's common, but more as a courtesy than a requirement.

When I got engaged to my girlfriend, her dad wanted me to have a medical exam to make sure I'm healthy. And, well, I've got some serious problems with my insides, so I'm not too happy about it. Also, if they issue drug tests with these checkups, probably a lot of us have a lot to fear.

I've personally weaseled out of every chance to have one of these tests.

It is not just the foreigners, I believe that Korean employers have to provide health checks for all employees every two years. Where the employee is over a certain age, 40 I think, it is every year.

Thanks for the input. One of the Korean teachers I trust told me they all do it every two years. No big deal I guess.

I used to work as a ESL teacher but since last summer I work for a major Korean cooperation as a Marketing Coordinator and before they hired me, I had to get one done. They took blood and handed over the little cup....eye test also...weight, pressure...then we had a similiar test done at work in November but I didn't have to get it done again. But they did some other check ups...got scanned and they made a special report. I hear they do this on a yearly basis. And it's free! Plus...since the drug tests are fairly pricy...they don't check for that...THANK GOD! I went home to Canada before I started, and before I knew I had to take the test...Stress level was fairly high in the waiting room. I learn later that it was too expensive for them...close one!
