This is funny. Smile

I don't know why I don't stand up for myself; I think I'm paralysed by programming. I don't have an appropriate response to this sort of thing, because it's not in my index of social behaviours . I know, logically, one should simply push the pusher back in retaliation, but somehow, I can't do that. I like Rike's way; it's in line with my idea of non-violent protest. Very Happy

What really bothers me is Koreans who say "Pushing is the Korean way." - that's such bollocks! I know plenty of Koreans who think it's just as rude as we do.

Funny thing is that my Korean aunt said that it is a class thing. She moved here (the US) after graduating from college in Korea. I asked her if she ever pushed in line, and she said no and sort of let out a condescending kind of snort.

She said that kind of behavior was only amongst the poor and unsophisticated Koreans. She (being a snotty rich girl) would never push in line at the grocery store...

but her maid might have!! (her words)

Man, I know Wombat is just tiny girl, but what's up with the rest of you getting pushed around all of the time? It only happened to me once in my entire time here.

what's also amazing is that while at cosco/carrefour/emart etc. they all want to push in line, but once it's their turn they go into a frickin coma. they don't prepare their boxes, they don't package their stuff, and they don't get their money out until it's been asked for. Korea...it's all about competition...and once your in the driver's seat..chill and let everyone else feel the pain....

Wombat, I believe "Becks" is correct in saying that your limited stature may be the problem. I have never been jostled on the street, or in any of the assortment of retail outlets. I think being 6'1'', 200lbs, with blond hair cuts a path and ensures a zone of non-penetration that even the most determined of 'ajumas' dare not encroach upon.

If in doubt, swat them to the side.

Beckerson you snitch! Telling everyone that I'm little! Watch yo' back, dawg; I'm-a-hafta learn you som' respect! Laughing

It's true; I can't compete with the meaty bulk of a determined ajumma, but I'm no midget. I like the term "wirey". Isn't that good? "She's tall, but wirey." If only I could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. My style tends to be more "trip gracelessy and sob like a baby."

I hope to gain 200lbs in weight, and about 2 feet in height and everyone will bown down to me, and call me EL HEFE!

I'll keep everyone posted. This is the last time I down a cup of coffee before posting. Smile

Wombaticus the Wirey.

Wombat, you must keep us all informed how your weight gain progresses. May I also suggest substantial 'lifts' in your shoes, as the employment of stilts, though a feasible solution, may lead to you being sought after for kids 'bidet' parties. I have considered stilts to be the only real remedy to the omnipresent desire of devilish youngsters to pry your asscheeks apart with their combined index fingers while uttering the fateful battlecry "Dung jib"...

Keep your head above the throng while wearing a thong.

say beckerson - yu better teach wombat some of your wrestling moves.

but seriously folks - i was riding to ansan today and i had a thot (an uncommone event)....

yu see - this bunch of korean got out of my way quite politely as i approached. i had been talking to my tiny friend wombat earlier this morning about her troubles with korean women being rude to her and observing that everyone is usually polite to me.

now - i am a foreign male, she is a foreign woman. these korean women are perhaps already so incredibly down-trodden that foreign women are the only people they CAN push around!

what yu reckon?

Emart's a nightmare. And why is everything in bulk? I only wanted ONE tube of toothpaste!
I only let old people cut in front of me. Nobody under 60, please.

How many times have you seen a fight over the elderly/pregant/injured subway seat?

I saw an argument, where some 60-something woman started loudly speaking to a woman who, at first glance, looked young (long hair, clothes and makeup) but on second look at her eyes was probably around 50. The older woman was apparently telling her off, but would intersperse her reprimands with a fake smile (perhaps for my benefit, who knows). The other woman defended herself, which I thought was warranted.
Am I the only one who's entertained by these disputes?

My flat mate and I took out out garbage today. Since we are between cleaning ajummas, and being lazy cunts, we had quite a pile, mostly boxes of plastic bottles, pizza boxes and the like.

Now, this dumb old lady comes up to me as Im piling the bottles into the bag and starts pushing me, while she starts reahcing into the box, and shuffling the bottles around, when anyone can clearly see IT IS JUST A BOX OF PLASTIC BOTTLES. After about 10 seconds, I ask her if she minds, then she grunts at me, and shuffles off with her grandson on her back.

Apparently she had never seen a foreigners garbage before.

Dumb retarded cow!

That made my day! Smile

Personally i think that it is hormones raging beyond control...Menopause i guess....Many of my Korean friends think that the Ajuma pushiness is exceptionally rude. Granted they are all pretty small girls compared to my Canadian sisters and brothers, but as my girlfriends said
"If you want fear! Go to Lotte department store during a sale and watch the ajumas stampede. No young Korean woman in their right mind would contest with a herd of stampeding Ajumas..We fear them...."

And to cement the point i went to a discount store just to see what hse meant....it was harsher than a mosh pit at a Slayer concert!!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
