I go to KEB, get a banker's draft made out in my name, send it home using registered mail, and my mum puts it in the bank for me.

Costs:

Bankers Draft: 5,000 won
Postage: 2,900

Total: 7,900.

Like I said a few years ago; Each month i stuff a million won in a soju bottle, cork it and then throw it into the Han river. Always seems to make it's way home just fine.

I had this silly idea that you were trying to help the OP.

I do want to help.

However, not by giving my banking information online!

Then again, this one won't hurt: I bank with KEB in Korea and with a major bank back home.

The OP can:

A) Shop around here for the better wire fee

B) Negociate with his home bank to have the fee waved or shop around until he finds a bank that offers such a deal.

C) Send money home by other means (ex: Travelers check, Money order).

To tzechuk

The exchange rate for bank drafts differs from the exchange rate for telegraphic transfers, the former being less favorable to the buyer.

You CAN use PayPal if you have a Korean credit card. Open a PayPal account with you American/Canadian/UK bank, then open another one with a different email address with your Korean credit card. Then you can transfer money from your Korean PP to your home PP then to your bank account. Takes some time on line, but sure is cheaper than wire transfers!
