Has anyone (or their gramps!!) ever grown their own hops? Which bugs like eating them and how would you get rid of them without using nasty chemicals? (as they'd be used for making beer)
Hub is expanding his beer-making scope this year and I'm in charge of making the 4 rhizomes we bought grow well, hopefully We have the Cascade, Nugget, Fuggle, and Chinook varieties. |

I haven't grown them, but I think most like rather hot dry weather, so it is hard to say how they will do in the Korean summer (too humid, maybe.)
As for bugs, a soapy water solution in a spray bottle handles a lot of buggers that infect plants. If you are being really careful, get some organic dish soap (emart has some). Make a soapy mixture in a spray bottle, and just spray it directly on the infestation.
This works really well for aphids, less so for white fly. Don't over water the plants, and you should be able to avoid white fly.
Love the nugget and fuggle! |

I have 3 bags of Tettnang's hops that I'm not going to
use in the beer I'm about to make. The hops was free
from http://www.goodbeer.co.uk But, I read that it is
for German type beers and not ales. I make ales.
If you want them PM me. |
