as a newbie i'm puzzling over what age group to teach.kindy frankly scares me as does teaching students with a very advanced stage of english.i've taught teenagers myself but will there english be too advanced for an unexperienced efl newbie?i do however have experience of teaching 16 to 18 year olds drama workshops and undergraduates theatre as part of my degree.also being in management i've had to train countless teenage part timers how to work in a restaurant.just wondering what the general work experience has been for you all regarding the littile angels?i've tried very hard to make my options relevent to the majority ( i'm guessing u.s/canada system) so please don't get at me if i've done it bad cos i'm from the u.k.cheers now!!

There is no 'best' age group to teach. Each age level appeals to different teachers, I think because of our personalities. In my opinion, someone who would be a disaster in a kindy class could be successful in a middle school setting, or whatever.

In my personal experience, the younger the student, the less I am able to relate to him. I have no idea why. Other people are 'born' to be elementary school teachers.

You won't know for sure about your own success rate with each group until you try, but to start out, I'd suggest checking your feelings. What group most appeals to you? Which do you enjoy being around the most?

PS: You will likely run into students with high levels of English at each of the different age levels. Lots of Koreans have lived abroad. It's probably more common in the bigger cities.

I like my adults students because its good to have adult interaction. I also find them the most challenging mentally. No books, just conversation.
