Typical behaviour. I have been at my school for three years. It was a great place but a change in the wind has made it less desirable. I and the boss have agreed that this is the final year here for both of our sakes. Now I figure three years in one place that shows some dedication to the school and the kids right? WRONG! The boss doesn't want me telling anyone that I am leaving in six months. She fears that parents won't enroll their kids if "another teacher leaves".

Now the boss has no problem firing people, but when the longest serving employee wants to go home well we have to keep that under-wraps. Typical behaviour. I have no idea when I "will be allowed" to tell people I am leaving but I figure two months ahead of my contract termination is acceptable whether the boss likes it or not.

Your situation is even more unbelievable as you are actually coming back and they are still wigging out. Bring things back for your kids but claim customs confiscated the gift you brought for the boss!

Cheers.

There's too much ambiguity in using the word 'leaving' and they like to gossip and jump to conclusions too much.

Better to just tell them you're going on vacation for 2 weeks.

If the boss still has a problem with that then to hell with the boss. Ask him when he thinks is a good time to let them know.

In my opinion, your boss is a moron.
