Can't get the search to work, so if this has been done before, sorry.

Corea vs Korea.
My kiddies are consistently telling me C. I know better and I know why they are saying it too (The Japanese turned it from C to K because of alphabetic order). When I got them to write it, one kid tried to do with a C, but I said English is my language, it's a K. They fell in line, but it was a tad annoying. Anyone else having trouble with this?

I heard some people have been writing Japan with a Z instead of a J. Now I love Korea, but this is immature to the nth degree.

I remember watching the World Cup on TV and seeing lots of COREAs spelt out on flags. Perhaps the kids were influenced by that? I've heard kids come out with the strangest mis-representations of things they've 'heard' or 'seen' on TV.

i'm surprised that they used the 'k' version on their world baseball classic uniforms...considering the rivalry with japan.

I don't believe that whole conspiracy theory about Japan wanting it to be Korea because of the alphabatizing. Japan doesn't even want their English name to be Japan, they want it to be Nippon. At least, that's what I remember reading. So either way, Korea would come first.

There's probably a lot better things a person could be doing with precious class time than arguing with students about the spelling of the name of their own country.

A lot of Korean schoolteachers spend a lot of time teaching the kids communist nonsense such as Korea should be spelled with a C.

I've been told by students that their Korean schoolteachers have told them that Korea should be Corea, and that is the evil Japanese who have made it so. Stupid waste of time in school imho, it's is more accurate to use 'Gorea' than 'Corea', if you look at how they hangulise the word.

The Korean line of logic is "well, it's not an urban legend. There's evidence!" "Okay where is the evidence?" "Japan is suppressing it."

Korea is still spelt with a C in French. So they're claiming the Japanese only tried to get Korea changed in what at the time was a language on par with Dutch, Spanish, or Portuguese. It's a colonial language but not the lingua franca. French at the time was the language of diplomacy.

So, it's was either highly prescient of the Japanese to foresee World War II, the rise of America, and English. Or it's just a stupid urban legend.

Kids are being run down in the street by Korean drivers, sex offenders are are being slapped on the wrist, men are beating their wives, Koreans are smoking and drinking themselves to the grave, and Koreans would rather have the government spend money changing over stationary instead of making their children safer...

My favorite one is the sex slave thing. Koreans want Japan to pay compensation. Sure, sounds fair 'n' all but the Japanese argue "but we did already. In the '70s we signed over low low interest development loans to Korea and in return the Korean government absolved us of having to pay compensation."

The Koreans have to stop hounding the Japanese and start hounding their own government for selling out their women for some shiny beads. You know? How many of Korea's independence leaders didn't die in poverty? How many of Korea's collaborators went on to becoming vastly rich forming chaebols? Seems to me the chaebols should take a look at their own history and pay compensation.

I was actually going over this with my class today.

They all yell "NO!!!!!!!!"

I ask them why. Then they say all that useless shiat about Dok Island.

So I asked them if they hated the Japanese in 2003. They said yes but they didn't know why.

Koreans need to grow up. Parents and teachers need to stop brainwashing their kids.

It does have to do with national pride and coming first in alphabetical order, but it has nothing to do with what the Japanese did or did not do. It's Korean sensitivities that are behind it all. It was not discussed at all until just before the World Cup. Koreans didn't like seeing Japan listed first.

Blaming this on Japan is called projection.
