12 noon sunday Korea time the game with Japan, is that right?

Should be exciting. If Korea wins that one, this country is going to grind to a halt to watch the final on tuesday.

Shades of World Cup fever.

They've won three games straight in pool 1. I think the ad is driving at a 4th win in pool 1.

Korea vs. Japan on Saturday will be another great game I'm sure. I think Japan will win though. What a laugh that would be, Korea beats Japan twice - yet it really means nothing in the end.

What a stupid ad. In the World Baseball Classic Korea has won 6 games which means they are undeafeted. Why would an advertisement diminish the number to 4? Who cares how many wins in a particular pool when they haven't lost in any pool?

No, the ad said 4 (literally the 'four strong') which means that Korea's in the semifinals. During the World Cup for example the first qualifiers are in the 16, then the 8 when they win again, then 4. I was at Starbucks yesterday too and that's what the ad was about.

Ah! I just assumed they went with a "lets all go for a 4th win in this round" because the number 4 coincided with the 4,000 won price. I figured gang was one of those infernal counting numbers but had no clue. Our resident polyglot lifts the veil. Danke.

I noticed in the IHT they made a mention on the front page about the discount Starbucks gave in Korea.

They really played crappy...down 4-0 in the 7th. They're toast!

The pitching was pretty bad.

6-0. Game is delayed because of the rain.

The pitching was bad throughout the game. The Japanese batters totally broke the concentration of the Korean pitcher in the 7th inning with their continuous attempts to bunt the ball.

I had a feeling the Koreans would blow it when it mattered.

I applied game theory to this problem.

First, the government yesterday formally exempted the players from having to do their army service. So that's a major goal won. And then think of it this way: if they win the whole ball of wax, they'll be heroes and they'll quickly sign with American teams and then they'll be vilified to their ending days.

However if they lose, they still get out of military service and they've already demonstrated they can beat the best of America and Japan. Everyone in Korea will forget about them tomorrow and they can quietly sign contracts with the American majors and they won't go down in history as traitors.

They made a more than respectable run & deserve credit for their efforts.

I was actually hoping they'd beat Japan today. Simply too out-powered at the bats.

Would be great to see poor little CUBA take the title Wink

I would have liked to see some type of cross-over in the second round, and semi finals. Like Japan/Korea/USA/Mexico vs. All the hispanic teams in pool 2. As others have said, Korea vs. Japan 3 times is a bit much.

Korea went 6-1, which is something to be proud of. Their media, however, once again shows their nationalistic moronic side. During the rain delay, down 6-0 with little chance of winning, we get the constant montage of Korean scoring highlights against the Japanese, as if to say, 'this is our last hurray. Rain San Diego, rain!!' Poor taste. Other than Kim Byung Hyun giving up the first 2 run homer, I don't think I saw replays of any of the other 4 runs. Kim Byung Hyun blatently hitting that batter? If you didn't see it the first time, you sure weren't going to see it again.

MMT- there are plenty of players from Korea in American MLB. None are demonized, but rather treasured. And signing an American contract quietly? Probably some more will, but not quietly.

Quote:
demonstrated they can beat the best of America

When Korean brass gave the call, their best came running. (And a 2 year exemption is MIGHTY good motivation).
America's best? Chase Utley, Vernon Wells, Michael Young, Jeff Francouer? Nothing more than rank and file. But now I'm being bitter.

Anyway. Korea won 6 in a row, and didn't make an error their entire tourney. Congratulations to them for that.
