What's up,
I'm a Toronto native and I'm moving to Seoul in a few weeks. Can any of you guys tell me whether there's any kind of Salsa scene over there? Also, reggae, reggaeton, hiphop or house?
What about radio? What channels should I be prepared to plug in?
Thanks,
Boogie
ps If you're a woman who is into dancing Salsa, don't hesitate to email me. I don't have any one to party with over there yet, except one Korean buddy. ([email protected]) |

Careful how you say salsa here. If you say it more like "sul sa", then you're saying the Korean word for diarrhea. |

If your blood is calling you to the dance floor you might have to create a "scene."
I would suggest going to the different universities in Seoul that have Spanish departments and find a group of students who get together to practice Spanish and Latin dance. A lot of students who study Spanish have studied abroad in various Latin countries y pueden ser salsificados. con el menor pretexto van a juntar para bailar.. |

There are/were a few small places scattered about with salsa . Club Macondo in Hongik Univ. area comes to mind but it has been awhile since I wandered over there. Not sure if it still is a going concern. |

there is one club near the air force base in Songtan that caters to the latino population and plays salso and merengue. Its called Mystics. Its a bit far from seoul though. Subway takes about an hour and a half. I have heard of other clubs that play salsa near itaewon. |

I believe that "Spy Bar" in Itaewon offers salsa lessons on Thursday nights in the Red Room. That might be a good place to connect with fellow enthusiasts.
p.s. Message me when you get here and we'll cut some rug. |
