I'm sure this is obvious to most, but just in case:
The war in Iraq is not (totally) about oil.
It's more so about:
a) returning to the famous Biblical sights
b) and shaking up the M-E to get some democracy and liberalization going there.

Who gave the Americans the right to think that they can spread democracy by invading another nation? Don't say...I can guess.

Why "the holy land" then?
There is plenty of oil in Northern Russia and Central Canada. Not good places to invade at this time. But Venezuela has lots too, and recent events might make it a good place for a "police action."
Y'all ever watch those preachers on American TV early Sunday morning? Them and their hundred million "heartland" following are the real Zionists, the real supporters of the "War for the Garden of Eden." Those church go-ers drive cars, sure, but it's Jesus and Adam and Moses that really get them excited.
Sometimes politicians don't lie. The recent rhetoric about bringing democracy to the Middle-East is probably fairly true.
The WofMD issue was easy to sell to the public. The "oil war" is easy to sell to the anti-war-folks. I reckon the War in Iraq is a far more complicated issue than the "oil war" folks teach. |

Sure, that's been a big neo-con dream for the last 15 years.
Certainly not George Bush's idea, nor is Rumsfeld and Cheney's poor execution of the neo-con dream.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said it would "discipline" two government employees who impersonated journalists in advance of a trip by U.S. President George W. Bush to the Gulf Coast, The Washington Post said on Saturday.
The Post quoted a Gautier, Mississippi couple whose home was wrecked by Hurricane Katrina as saying two men identified themselves as journalists during a visit to the couple's home.
Elaine Akins told the newspaper she and her husband Jerry were initially told by the two men that they were Fox News journalists, but that they later identified themselves as Secret Service agents. 
Bush visited Gautier on March 8. |

LIMA, Peru - Carlos Santana quoted his old friend Jimi Hendrix in an anti-war message here Monday and said his philosophy is the antithesis of President George W. Bush's.
"I have wisdom. I feel love. I live in the present and I try to present a dimension that brings harmony and healing," the 58-year-old rock icon said. "My concept is the opposite of George W. Bush."
Santana, speaking to Peruvian journalists ahead of a Tuesday concert, said young people's opposition to the war in Iraq is reaching the dimensions of the anti-Vietnam war sentiment in the 1970s.
"There is more value in placing a flower in a rifle barrel than making war," he said. "As Jimi Hendrix used to say, musical notes have more importance than bullets."
In 1971, Santana was prevented from performing in Peru by the military dictatorship, which deemed his music an "alienating" force. Santana returned to perform in 1995. |
