Odd question, I know, but I do not know how to convey this on my resume and recruiters won't answer the question.
I am a nature buff and like hiking, beach combing, ectotourism an the like.
I plan on coming to Korea in July and wanted to live in a city where I can teach (middle school and up) and still commune with nature.
Hokey, I know, but I've lived in New York for the past 15 months and DON'T want to suffer through more urban localities.
Areas I like (what travel books have said are ecological sites, please correct me if I am wrong):
Jeju Island
Jirisan National Park
Hwajinpo
Busan
Ulsan
I am going to post my resume in the appropiate place on the website, BUT wanted to see if you guys had suggestions first. |

come to anywhere in korea. Seoul is a big city but in 30 minutes by subway you can be out in the countryside or hiking in the mountains. Ask a recruiter to find you a location outside of seoul. There are a lot of beautiful places here to visit if you have time. There are also some travel clubs you can join that take you every weekend to sceneic spots. I think you can visit them at www.adventurekorea.com |

Both Ulsan and busan are much dirtier than New York as both are set up to be port cities...
If you are looking for nature scrub them from your list....actually any of the top 7 cities(Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon,Suwon,Gwangju and Ulsan) are pretty grotty with little to no urban planning..... |

That sounded just like what i was looking for on my second journey here.
The places that I was looking at were:
ganwon-do, sokcho, gangneung, chuncheon, donghae, samcheok
others, mokpo, wando, yeosu, suncheon, geoje, jeju, seogwipo, gunsan, daecheon
there are also loads of smaller places inland that would provide you with clear air and an opportunity to see and be with nature.
I would stay away from the port cities of busan, ulsan and pohang if you don't want pollution, they are the industrial armpits of Korea.
Being close to National Parks is a nice idea because of the outdoors opportunities in a relatively clean environmnet. It seems that the National Parks are the cleanest parts of the country side, having said that smaller places tend to have a very big problem with litter which detracts from the experience in the rural areas.
I ended up in a very rural setting on the south west coast about 6 km from the sea and 45 km from Gwangju and Mokpo. |

Inspector gadget nailed it -- thats an accurate shortlist of the smaller cities the OP might do well to consider. |

I recommend Gangneung for its proximity to both beach and scenic mountains - if you don't mind living three-and-a half hours from Seoul... |

Were you drunk when writing this post? Would a school hire you with all of those spelling errors in the first place?

nature and interaction with other foreigners can be a bit of a tradeoff. i live out near ganghwa island. it's nice and scenic. mountains, beaches, temples, etc etc... but outside of the people i work with, i haven't seen another (english speaking) foreigner.
i personally don't mind this too much. i quite like it out here. but it might be something worth considering before you find yourself in some remote little place. good luck. |

I recommend Jinju as well...I seriosuly doubt that anyone going there can come away not thinking that it was the prettiest, nicest, most pleasant city in Korea. Seriously, I lived there 4 years, and when I looked for work elsewhere I realised that Jinju had ruined me for other cities, they just couldn't compare.
Like the last post said, there's only so much hiking, swimming and mountain-biking you can do before you get bored, but it took 4 years there for that to happen to me. And at least Jinju is just big enough to have enough foreigners for a social life, and since I left lots more cinemas and things have opened so now there's probably even more to do. |

I did forget incheon and it would be included in the big 7
Here are the top 10:
1. Seoul(10.1)
2. Busan(3.7)
3. Incheon(2.7)
4. Deagu (2.5)
5. Daejeon(1.5)
6.Gwangju(1.4)
7. Ulsan and Suwon(1.1)
9. Goyang(1.0)
10. Seongnam(1.0)
So there are 10 cities in korea with over 1 million people
-But we all know that Seoul swallows Suwon, Goyand and seongnam
