That's right, the lead singer of Couch has finished his five-year prison sentence a little early, and their band is releasing a split album with the Japanese band appropriately named Discocks.
This weekend they're playing two shows, one in Seoul and one in Chungju. Note the early start times if you're planning to go.

Woah, these are the guys who exposed themselves? They went to prison?? Christ, talk about overreaction. I'm glad he got out early.
You know, people say if an american guy exposes himself on TV, his prison sentence is going to be a lot longer than korean's. *rimshot* |

Only the lead singer of Couch exposed himself. The other guy was from Spiky Brats. They're playing but I don't know if he's still in the band.
They were looking at five years in prison, but then the attention died down and it was reduced to two years, and then they were released without any press coverage, but put on some sort of parole where they weren't allowed to play shows, and now they're playing shows. |

That is definitely true. They are Seoul's best band. |

How come I can never find these punk venues in HongDae? And for that matter, where do the Korean metal bands play?
Also, are they foreigner friendly? I wouldn't want to be denied access just because of my hairy tattooed arms and five-day stubble. |

So he's not supposed to be playing any shows?
Well, I hope that guy- the one who rats on all the DJs to the police- doesn't hear about it. |

ever heard of a korean punk rock band called No Brain? I used to love them in korea, i had a few of their CD's. crying nut was too folky. i like rap music, that's my first interest but second is punk rock, but not all punk rock. when i was in japan i picked up one japanese punk rock band called "Stance Punks" they have a lot of punk rock in japan and they had it set up in the listening booths and most of it was crappy, but this stance punks was pretty awesome so i just bought it. actually, punk rock is annoying but it's the only kind of music outside of rap music that i can listen to.
i know they have those shows in the hongdae area, it could be cool, i never went, too busy getting drunk in the HOFS, way cooler |

Because there's only one.

Your best bet is Ssamzie Space and WASP. They're both pretty close to each other. There's a band called Todd Flanders playing there.

There's a fairly substantial foreigner scene nestled within the Korean punk scene. The best place to meet us is here:

Skunk Hell is one of the few places in Korea where you'll see loads of Koreans with tattoos.

Ha ha, that freak only gets upset about foreigners. He posted a vitriolic message there again recently.
No Brain is still around, but like a lot of the older bands they've moved more towards rock music. |
