Both Pension and Health Insurance Both Mandatory?

My boss says that pension and health insurace must be paid for all foreigners in Korea. Now he's nervously getting the paperwork ready for us. If I were to choose pension is it also mandatory to get health insurance as well? I just want pension.

They're both mandatory under Korean Law.

You shouldn't need your own health insurance if your employer does what he is supposed to do and signs you up for the national plan.

There's no reason for a teacher to have private medical insurance in Korea.

What????

I already will have one type of cover that is recognized by Korean hospitals by a Korean company...why would I get 2 different health insurances that the cover the same thing?????

Interesting. Poly School didn't give us either pension or the official insurance, but they did pay half of any submitted medical expense.
