Korea, hands down. More PC bahhhngs per capita than.... Oh. Let me get back to you on that one, Axl.

Okay, just as laogaiguk is certain that Australia is NOT the most PC country despite his never having been there, I'm inclined to say that Canada, a place I've never visited, would probably give anywhere else some serious competition for the title judging from what I've read on Dave's.

The US by far. Haven't you ever seen Trailer Park Boys? Don't you remember how Bubbles had to stop saying "cokesucker" just so the show could be aired in the US?

Canada is lucky because there are fewer Christians to piss off, so it's easier to get away with saying more.

The Christian right-wingers are more visible in politics in media than they are prominent among the general population. They're overzealous in their pursuits, and they end up making the US look like a pretty conservative place, when in most cases it isn't. It's a shame.

I'm not talking about Christian right-wingers. I'm talking about Christians. And there are a lot more of those south of the border. I've even met hardcore Christian punks.

But prudishness doesn't equal PC-ishness. One might find certain language & behaviour to be offensive and vulgar, and yet still have extremely old-fashioned, un-PC views on all sorts of issues like politics, women's rights, minorities, the environment, etc.

So the US is less PC only in a bad way then?

The way I look at it, creationism and farktard groups like the Westboro Baptist Church or white power organisations like the National Alliance exist because they're preying off of the political correct idea of tolerance. Garbage like that gets left on the curb in Canada. Stockwell Day lost an election after it was revealed he thought dinosaurs and humans coexisted.

I will admit Americans are less PC about using words to describe black people.

I'm not sure why so many threads here end up blaming Christians for anything and everything. It's like a forum full of Neros. And now they're being blamed for PC in America? Check out Wiki's piece on polical correctness. Here are some exerpts:

Quote:
The term PC is frequently used in a manner that implies, first, that there are a significant number of people who make conscious political choice of the words they employ in their speech and writing, with the intention of influencing broader usage and, through that, social outcomes; second, that this group is roughly equivalent to the political left, or some large sector of the left; third, that these conscious political choices of words constitute a single phenomenon, designated as "political correctness"; and fourth, that these usages are enforced in a manner that is repressive to freedom of speech.

Quote:
Gregorian calendar-related terminology is being altered from Anno Domini (Latin: In the year of [the] Lord) and Before Christ to the Christian-neutral Common Era terminology (CE/BCE).

Quote:
In 2004, Federated Department Stores (which includes Macy's) banned their employees from saying "Merry Christmas" to customers.

Quote:
Target, Inc.'s decision to ban the Salvation Army once again in for the 2005 Christmas season, as well as ban the use of the word Christmas in both their store locations and advertising, resulted in an attempted boycott of the corporation through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend

I'm sure Christians are behind it all somehow. We've got to smoke them out! Especialy those creationists who, according to racetraitor, are "preying off of the political correct idea of tolerance." (although PC is not about tolerance at all). But the point is that there are some groups in the US who have the audacity to think they will be tolerated.

PC culture basically stemmed from how to address 'black people'.. whats the politically correct word to address a 'black person' as you say so it doesn't sound offensive and everyone will agree its an acceptable word. Of course that started in the U.S.

Then it went to people who are gay.. people who are handicapped (physically challenged) and on and on and on and on to all new heights.

Anyways.. for this poll.. North America. Canada seems to have adopted all of the same concepts for being PC correct as well.

I don't notice it at all with Australians, Europeans, etc.

NZ seems a little PC-ish to me for some reason.

Different countries are PC about different things. We're more PC about blacks and Islam, and the US is more PC about Natives and Jesus vampires. I'd probably get arrested in the US just for calling them that.
