My coworker and I both eat a lot of "Calorie Bars" between classes, sometimes our breaks are short and/or unpredictable... I was wondering if anyone knows anything about how healthy these are? Please don't confuse them with a weight-lifting dietary supplement, they are about 1000 won and green-tea flavored.

Thanks.

They are for people that don't get enough calories in their diet..

They are chalk full of calories and unless your wishing to gain a lot of wait I wouldn't recommand eating them.

I like the cheese flavored ones. IIRC, one pack (2 small-size bars) contains fewer than 250 calories.

Those "calorie bars" are so misleading. I thought they would have reduced calories in them and was extremely shocked when I saw the actual calories per serving. I think the total for the box is around 330. That is quite high for that quantity of cookies. Unless you want to gain a lot of pounds, stay away!

I know a snickers has 1/3 of your daily calorie requirement. Now that is a "Calorie" bar.

I run a lot of ultra marathons and need calories. Used to use those punny 240 cal. Powerbars etc..... Now its got to be a snickers....

I usually have them in the morning with a glass of milk. They're a meal replacement, not a supplement.

I am eating Granola bars when I get the munchies. They're great because they are about 200 cal and are a healthy source of carbs (wonderful when there's not time for breakfast) - not to mention that they're more economically priced than those calory bars. Head out to Costco for those or ask a friend with a Costco card to take you.

i remember hearing in a health related class that the majority of granola bars (and sadly just about everything else) have hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil in them which is basically toxic to your heart and stuff...

Yeah, that's the question: What kind of calories do these things have in them? Snickers has a lot of empty sugar calories - as do those Nature Valley granola bars (though I, too, eat them).

Uhm your crazy.. Snickers only has 280 Calories a human body needs around 2000 Calories a day. Thats not even close to 1/3..

If you need the calories think about proper diet not just some random calories just because you need them.

I'm definitely only a "little" crazy. Every run 48 hours without stopping? You use a lot of calories and though the majority of my caloric intake comes from a professionally designed and regulated carbohydrate drink -- i still will chomp on a snickers if my stomach is feeling for it.

As to those calorie figures. I go crazy when people quote the 2000 calories as a "base" figure!!! NOT and it is definitely well high, as has also been mentioned recently by many professionals in the know regarding the new FDA figures/dietary requirements.

I went to my fridge and the mini snickers (looks like a one bit thing) lists 195 calories. The large snicker bar has over 570 cal. If you are a crazy Scot, you can get it deep fried and eat over 1200 cal (650 in fat).

I agree -- we should all be concerned about a proper diet. As a top level athlete I watch mine carefully. Take my bee's pollen in the morning. Get my protein through beans and nuts. Get a nutritional and blood analysis twice / year. All that. .......The thing was, I was talking about when running and burning over 450 cal. / hour. Now that is a different thing...............All those bike riders out there can attest how great a can of coke kicks in during a long bike ride.

It's true. Same with fruit juices and high fructose corn syrup. I used to dodge all of this stuff back home, but I can't even read ingredients lists here, so I eat what comes my way. Nevertheless, about 80-90% of prepackaged foods, if not more, are complete junk food, being nothing more than sugar mixed with a few random flavors.

As for Calorie bars, I eat those occasionally. The cheese ones definitely pimp your mom out for a 5 spot.
