I think the Kurds would go along US bases there would be safe as . as for the others well - then see what can be done by hook or crook.Anyway there are Iraqis who will go along with it. Many Sunnis don't like Iran, Sistaini (Most respected Ayatollah ) and Sciri (biggest politcal group ) have sided with the US and not with Iran. and many Shias would like to see Al Qaeda destroyed thanks to Al Qaeda's attacks on them.

Well, we'll wait and see how enthusiastic Iraqis are about those bases once it becomes known that the whole point of them is to launch attacks on other countries in the region. I take the point about the Shiites not liking Al Qaeda, but I'm yet to be convinced that "I don't like Al Qaeda" automatically equates to "I want my country to be the launching pad for bombing campaigns against governments that take an insufficently tough line against Al Qaeda".

Al Qaeda has targeted the Shias. Maybe they will go along. The Kurds (also targeted by AQ welcome US bases and this only my guess but I think they have an idea what they US will be looking to do.
