WTF!! I just got my Gepik pay receipt and 150,000 for unemployment insurance was deducted from my pay! As if I'm going to sit on unemployment benefits in Korea.

Has anyone had these deductions? What did you do?
Thanks.

Are you an E-2 visa holder? If so, employment insurance is OPTIONAL.

My school thought I might have to take it out, but when they queried it with the relevant body it turned out that only those on an F-1? Or one of the F - type visas had to take it out.

Is it mentioned in your contract?

It is OPTIONAL as pointed out in the previous post.

If you dont want it deducted simply tell the school that you "DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS!" once they investigate this they will find that it true and you will be refunded your money.

If it is or isn't mentioned in the contract doesn't matter.

So for an F-2 it is required?

I am in GEPIK and just got asked about it. The deduction is 10,350 won a month according to what I'm being told. I didn't really understand the first few times they told me about it, but now it's starting to make sense.

Can anyone give me an answer on this?

I can just see all the Canadians in the public schools now...

"Man, I just can't wait till I've got my 500 hours in, then I'll ask the principal to lay me off so I can go on the Pogie in Korea... then I'll party all night and smoke dope all day in my little officetel... yeah man, this place is better than Nova Scotia..."
