konguk is pretty cool ... lots or bars and restaurants and students; not so many foreigners like hongdae-shinchon. you are pretty close to jamsil (lotte world) and kangbyeung (emart) and shinchun (good seafood restaurants and booking clubs); also, the green line to kangnam isn't far. |

I second what the mobster said. Hanyang is pretty laid back, not many foreigners at all. On the river, so great place for biking/running/rollerblading.(the small river that goes into the Han at Seoul forest). Short walk to Home Plus with great English service. Line 2 gets you anywhere in 30min or less (unless you want to check out Suwon )))). Cheongyechun is just a short walk away.....

Konkuk is great to hang out, kind of a nasty neighborhood to live in. The streets are mostly those little tiny alleys with exactly room for one car to drive down. It smells horrific in the summer. Lots of drunken ajosshis at night. Etc.
Great place to visit though. |

I don't know about Hanyang, but I agree completely with the last post about the Konkuk area. The campus is OK, but it seems like the rest of Kwangjin-gu is stuck back in the Seoul of 1986 or something. Tiny little buildings and alleys, no parks (except the crowded Children's Grand Park), bad traffic (especially around Konkuk Station on Line 2), the aforementioned bad summer smells...
Cheap though--I know of 10+ pyung one room apartments around here for 10 million down and 250-300,000 won per month. |
