Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk
Wed Mar 22, 6:05 PM ET

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Texas has begun sending undercover agents into bars to arrest drinkers for being drunk, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission said on Wednesday.

The first sting operation was conducted recently in a Dallas suburb where agents infiltrated 36 bars and arrested 30 people for public intoxication, said the commission's Carolyn Beck.

Being in a bar does not exempt one from the state laws against public drunkenness, Beck said.

The goal, she said, was to detain drunks before they leave a bar and go do something dangerous like drive a car.

"We feel that the only way we're going to get at the drunk driving problem and the problem of people hurting each other while drunk is by crackdowns like this," she said.

What about being in the White House?

Does that exempt you from these laws?

In Kansas and Missouri you can get fingerprinted when stopped on the highway by the police!

Uncivil liberties?

C'mon ...

This sort of blatant encroachment is a further "IN YOUR FACE" example of the Orwellian police state
Wackenhut et al New World Order agenda.

How can you even question this?

Confused about how the world works? Why not make sense of it all with a grand conspiracy theory! However, there are just too many of these floating around. Here, you can come up with a Wacko Right Wing Conspiracy Theory of your very own. Simply enter your selections, click the button at the bottom of the page and print it out.

I don't quite get the point of this article/thread. When someone asked Willie Sutton why he robbed banks, he said, "Because that's where the money is." If you want to arrest a drunk, isn't the obvious place to start looking in a bar?

I haven't laughed so much in a long time!!!!!!!!! This is damn hilarious.
Next we'll have funeral directors knocking off those they deem "unsociable" or "deadbeat".

This is hilarious and gets to the heart of the matter. America is in part -- a big religious, bigoted, flacid (as in without energy), armed, police state....And they want to tell the world how to live..............

It's Friday, glad I can go somewhere and get drunk! Georgie, put me on your list, as one of the bad guys.........

Here's a novel concept for dim-wit agitator types like Ya-ta ...

Finding drunks in a bar -- what are the chances?

Hmmmm ... what else will they come up with next?

Arrested in public washrooms for MAKING A STINK.

Detained in restaurants ... for swallowing.

Taken away at a sporting event ... for cheering ...

Pounched on during a University seminar ... for THINKING ...

DOUBLE-PLUS-GOOD.

You forgot one:

Texas arresting people in bars for being drunk is like Israel arresting people in Palestine for being Arab.

I liked that analogy. VERY appropriate to anyone with intelligence. And of course, intelligent people don't call others dumb -- they make it more exact and poetic. You are a few bulbs short of a christmas tree. Next time engage in dialogue rather than monkey squealing, please!!!

DD

Arresting people in bars for being drunk (in Texas) is like arresting Koreans in restaurants for ordering rice.
