Before I came to Korea I loaded up my ipod mini with songs from my friend's computer so I could get a bunch of new tunes. When I hook my ipod up to my new laptop I get a message saying that it needs to be reformatted to use on it. I don't want to reformat it because I want to keep the songs that are on there. I got a copy of "IPod Access" but it's not picking up my ipod. I tried to just go into my ipod manually but when I do this, I get the same message about reformatting. Anyone know what I can do so that I can keep these songs?

Have you switched using it with a PC to a Mac (or vice versa)? If so, then yes, you'll have to format it to use with your new computer. Before you do though, find a friend whose computer corresponds to your old one - i.e. either a PC or a Mac, whichever you were using before - and as long as they have iTunes installed (a given on any Mac) you'll be able to copy and drag your songs from your iPod onto their desktop, and then burn them onto a CD or DVD. Alternatively, you can switch your iPod to enable disk use, and then drag them directly back into your iPod (not through iTunes), but in order to play them on the iPod you'll have to drag them back out and into iTunes on your new computer.

no luck buddy,
macs and pcs work on entirely different data systems. You can't use a mac drive on a pc and vice versa.
unless yr. McGyver yr. SOL.

Unfortunately you won't be able to enable disk use on the iPod using your new laptop, as it seems your iPod is formatted for use with a Mac. You'll need to find a friend with a Mac in order to do this. Re-formatting your iPod for use with your PC is an easy process - just use the iPod Updater software, which you can download from here if you don't have it already: -

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater20060110.html

Formatting the iPod will erase everything on there, so if you want to keep the music you already have, like I say, you'll have to borrow a friend's Mac BEFORE formatting the iPod for PC use.

That really hasn't been true for a number of years. My flash drive and digital cameras can all go back and forth no problem.

Wow! Really??

I thought they read and wrote data in different ways and even different places... and that's the main reason I didn't get a powerbook. So now with pretty much anything you can go back and forth between platforms? Might be an excuse to change my laptop soon Wink

WOOPWOOP TWO!!!!

I am 99% sure that you can use a winamp plugin for that use and bypass itunes all together.
Logically though, i'm not sure if you could then ALSO put that same stuff into your itunes program...

PLEASE DO SOME READING on this product. What I just described was second hand year old information.

I'm gonna go read up on it myself....

sorry...i reread and i think i misunderstood...
