Is this the future of download sites? This image is from thepiratebay.org. torrentspy has become pretty useless- its owner says that he is trying to become a pay per view sort of site, and you can't find much there these days.
I wouldn't mind a subscription site (like blueyoyo, but with more content), but there are really none available for up to date content. It will be interesting to see what evolves from this transition.
Anyone have any good site suggestions for now? |

Yeah I have to wonder as well. I use Bearshare and it's been alright. The other day I did a search and there didn't appear to be much for the particular show I was trying to find. I went back later and was able to find some but still not as much as in the past. I'm wondering if that one too is going downhill.
Has anyone heard anything about bearshare?
What other sites are good for downloading TV programs? |

http://www.torrentleech.org is a superb site. I'm not sure if you still need an invite to join, but if so, send me a PM. I have a few more left.
The speeds are awesome on there, but they do monitor the upload/download ratio. |

The future of Bittorrent may well be as the OP suggests, but hardly the future of 'downloading'.
It will never end. Piracy is here to stay. |

LimeWire has been good to me. I dropped 18.00 for the Pro version but thats for six months. 3 bucks a month not bad.....
The free version is good but much slower than the PRO version. |

The Pirate Bay has never been great. If it sinks, it's because it sucks. |

Piratebay has great variety but the download speeds are terrible. I end up canceling most of what I try to get from there.
The future is..... well-managed, member only, controlled bit-torrent sites. Like uknova.com. Boy has that site been good to me. I've downloaded 300GB from it in the past year. Download speeds often exceed 500kbs. Thing is....it's niche....British TV which is not commercially available. It's heavily moderated so they refuse to host anything illegal. If it's possible to buy in the stores they wont accept it.
It works though. |

Piratebay has a great selection of European music and movies. I've downloaded some great stuff from there. It may be slow, but it has good content- perhaps a bit more esoteric and highbrow. I just set things up to download, go to bed, and it is done in the AM. No rush, no bother. |

Has the Pirate Bay been shut down, or is it really having problems with its database?
Regardless, as far as the future of "underground" P2P is concerned, something else always crops up. eamo might be right.
I work for a Canadian broadcaster, and we are trying to get more legit downloads of our stuff online. It's not as simple as you would think. But the BBC is doing it, the American networks are selling shows on iTunes, and NPR has a lot available for podcasting.
The future certainly includes more legit downloads, authorised by the people who make the stuff. |

No, Pirate Bay seems to be fine now- but the graphic for when they were down for a while is a great illustration of the problems.
The question I asked in the op was how people saw the future of this stuff shaping up.
Right now the legit stuff is piece meal- you can get some legit content on iTunes and other places- but not much yet, really.
It would be great to see a site develop that charges and pays directly the royalty fee. I know there is at least one (don't remember which one) talking about doing just that.
Anyway, the free download sites are being harrassed and the content is getting more difficult to obtain. |

Obviously, a lot will depend on where the law goes. Here in Canada, it is not illegal to download this stuff. But that may change. The Pirate Bay is also protected by the laws of the country in which it operates.
I've been downloading for a while. As soon as one site or platform goes down, a better one comes along. I don't see that ending soon.

Same here... www.torrentcentral.com and anything not found there is searchable directly from that site on www.isohunt.com
I usually find what I want on one or the other...anything truly obscure or desperately wanted I just end up buying...but that my friend has been many many moons ago now...perhaps even before Napster was in its glory |
