1) what on earth is "the buddy system"
2) my T.V. will NOT turn on AFKN.

What really sucks is we also lost "Star Sports", and "CNBC", and now there is NO news channel in English. Yes, I can read the news on the computer, but I did like "Good Morning America". Granted AFKN is mostly garbage, but it still is garbage in english.

Drives me crazy. The Korean government severely limits the amount of English language tv channels into the country, yet you can watch the really really ridiculous Arirang propaganda tv channel throughout Asia.

the Korean government has nothing to do with it..

This is how it works...the cable company will have say a 6 month contract for a certain station...they will demand a price and if the broadcaster pays then it broadcasts it shows..

What probably happened is on of 2 things..
1) AFN and another channel were bidding for the same slot and the other station bid higher and so got the channel..

2)The cable station may have raised their rates and the American government is too tight to pay so they decided that the cable charge wasn't worth it...

The Korean government has everything to do with it. If the government would let English channels in (they want in bad too, Murdoch has been trying for awhile) then people wouldnt be upset about losing AFN because there would be enough English entertainment to watch. The Korean government severely limits English channels due to pressure from Korean TV ala the Korean movie industry.

Some hub of Asia.

Same thing happened to me in Ansan last year...

Here's the thread:

I slowly adjusted to life without AFN - it could be viewed as a blessing in disguise.
