|
|
for me i have seen about 70 Korean films...
what about you guys,.. just curious... am I leading the pack on this one
or am i left in the dust once again?
and what was your favourite, if u have one... Mine is Juhonggulshi aka THE SCARLET LETTER.... by far. It sold about 1.5 million tickets which is good and average (year 2004) It is the only korean movie I have seen twice. The film is one of those rare movies that would have international appeal. It was released in Japan anyhow. Of course, was the last film appearance of Lee Eun Joo... I didn't know that when i saw the film, but was told the next day, and then I realized why it seemed so real and affecting. The whole movie is haunting and the score exceptionally haunting as well. A movie some people will remember for a long time to come. |

Sorry, buddy! I've seen few more than you. But anyway, 70 is quite respectable number so you really shouldn't feel too bad. Anyway, here's my list so far (140):

Friends, fellow cinephiles......
I've only seen about 10 or so Korean films, only having been here 6 months.
Can you help???? WHAT'S THE BEST FILM YOU'VE SEEN?
I saw Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter , Spring back home. Highly recommend. The best I've seen since being here -- "Painted Fire" -- sorry, don't know the Korean name.
You're recommendations appreciated.

I've seen quite a few Korean movies.
Most are complete crap though. I think of the hours wasted watching some horrible flick and I shudder.
My absolute favorite Korean movie is α׳ with the beautiful Jeon Ji Hyun. I've seen this movie about ... 10 + times.
ⵯ is another of my favorites...I feel bad I had to wait like 2yrs after seeing it in the theater for the dvd with English subs to come out.
If I really like a Korean flick I buy the DVD. Usually though I just rent the dvds and watch it once.
I think I am like Homer, at the 80-100 zone, as I have been here over 9yrs now.
I wonder, SeoulFinn how did you remember the names of ALL those Korean movies? Or did you just copy out your dvd collection?
I can't even make a list like that of English movies I've seen in the past 10yrs... |

'Old Boy' is a great Korean movie - but it's not for the squeamish. |

By that same token, Americans must love car chases and cookie cutter buddy cop movies.
Korea is trying to be Hollywood these days and I think it's a turn for the worse. Korea found its niche back in the late '90s with romantic comedies or comedies in general with a quirky twist. I think of films like Barking Dogs Never Bite and The Foul King. |

If it's bad, it better be really bad. If a movie is extremely sh!tty, it can rather be entertaining. For example, ù ȱȸ was one of those unforgettable movies for me. I loved it...! Share your worst Korean films ever, too. |

This thread is making me think that I should start a "korean movie diary" so I can remember what I've seen.
Two favorites are (but I don't know the English or Korean title for either):
- a movie about an old Pansori singer and a young prodigy, who is if I ever remember right blind or going blind.
- a movie that is about a man who records nature sounds, falls in love with his older work partner, and then goes through a painful break-up.
I saw the pansori movie at the KNTO tourist office. They used to show weekly movies. Does anyone know if they still do that?
Also, anybody know a theater that shows current Korean movies with English subtitles?
Also, any recommendations about where to buy Korean movies on DVD for a good price? I don't want to buy bootlegged ones, cause I'm tired of getting halfway through a movie, and then having the DVD suddenly stop. |

Yes, most american movies are crap too.
If pushed though I think I'd rather watch american crap than korean crap.
Seems like almost every korean movie is trying to move the viewer to tears at some point.
Unless you are a great director and can hold back on the schmaltzy sentimentality stick to trying to entertain people I say. Take a movie like million dollar baby by clint eastwood, that is how you move an audience emotionally without treating them like idiots. |

When ever I see a K-movie I make sure to put it down somewhere. Hey, like I could remember all those titles without a list.
My DVD collection is quite pitiful as I have only 10 or so in DVDs. But I have around 40 in DVD rips (ie. unpacked) stored on my external hard drive. And then I have around 50 avi files downloaded from the bowels of the Internet. The rest of the movies I've seen in theatres or TV. |
