Hey does anyone know where I can find some electronic musical equipment in seoul. Samplers, drum machines, shite like that. I'm looking for a Roland MC-505, so if anyone is selling or knows someone who is that would help me too.
Cheers |

nagwon musical market, my friend. Go to the Jongno-3(sam)-ga subway stop, get out by Tapgol Park, directly on the other side of the park is a building with a car park underneath it, and stairs leading up to the second or third floor. There is also a film something or other in the building. TONS of stuff. I saw some Yamaha NS-10s in there, selling for US$350!! Anyway, that's where you go. |

Just be careful the prices there. If you get ripped, don't feel you can't take the item back, either.
Check online for pricing before you go. Nakwon stores, I find, are anywhere up to 30% more expensive than online stores.
Do a search in google.co.kr for DZ and browse before you buy. Take a copy and negotiate. Or just buy online. |

I got a behringer preamp online for 115,000 won. Elsewhere online was 155,000 won. At Nakwon? Who knows, maybe 199,000 won? |

Hey, in terms of looking for "electronic" music instruments, you won't have much luck in Korea in my opinion. I lived in Japan for four years, before living here for the past 2, so I can pretty much say for certain that everything on sale in Korea is 140% more expensive than in Japan. For example, Pioneer EFX-500, a DJ effector, I've seen selling at a random place in Yongsan for 800,000 won, whereas it cost me equivalent of 400,000 won in Japan. Even small things, like audio capture cards are expensive here. Most of the stuff is made in Japan as far as I know. Anyway, if able to go to Japan, look for the Sofmap stores in Osaka or Tokyo -- they have a great used section, and a section called Creator's Land, full of all the best gear. |

It's a Eurorack UB802.
It's for pre amping before soundcard input. I heard not a good brand but perfect for me micing up the classical guitar. Didn't break my bank.
How about you, homerecording? |

yeah people are always down on Behringer pre's, but I have the mic100, which is just a 1X1 tube pre. Does exactly what it's supposed to do, so i have no problems with it!
What kind of mic do you use? I have with me a Rode NT-1A. Want to buy a couple quality small compressors, like the SM-81, or the AKG C-1000, for stereo recordings, or drum overheads, but they are all really expensive here, if you find them at all. |

haha,
I don't have a lot of faith in recovering the money I spend in homerecording...so I don't spend a lot. Actually I hadn't recorded anything for a few years, so getting into it again. But, not large scale like you guys. Hey, I've got a cheap kids casio piano and it comes with midi in and out. Can you believe it? So, I'm going to learn midi soon.
Another example of my amateurness: I use a sm57 for vocal, guitar etc. And, that's my only mic.
Good luck to you guys. Let us know if you make something MP3 in Korea and upload somewhere! |

Are these prices still valid for the MC-505 in Korea? What a rip!
Does anyone know of a decent online store in Japan? How about a real store in Busan?
... on to my ever present question ... is anyone using a UMPC to make music? I've been intrigued by the Samsung Q1 + Audiomulch + MIDI controller for awhile but have yet to find someone doing this... I am reluctant to take the plunge with my hard earned cash in the name of experimentalism |
