|

The only things I really wish I had brought are my turntables and mixers. After work I sit at the computer mastering beats that I'll never get to scratch over... I need at least one turntable and a mixer, some vinyl would be nice too. I'm interested in getting a hybrid turntable, anyone have any experience with these? Bought turntables in Korea?

sounds interesting.. but the fact that it is by gemini does put me off somewhat.
I think pioneer really have cornered the market in the cd market (as with technics on the vinyl side of things). Doesn't mean they are the best - but I am so used to the feel of the pioneer, it would feel a little strange to change. Lots of nice tricks with it too - put a memory card in and you can save your cue points and other useful stuff. |

I used a trial version of the Ableton software, and I was blown away. If I ever got back into DJing, I'd throw the turntables out the window. There's so much more cool stuff you can do with Ableton on the fly. |

Numark, Pioneer, Tecnics, Gemini, Straton, etc... are all making these hybrid turntables now. I just searched "hybrid turntable" and the Gemini one was the 1st result.
I like that you can burn a CD (or plug-in MP3) with whatever samples you want and scratch them with the 12" platter. You can do more "tricks" this way... sample, beat, sample. Basically, you get to make your own vinyl.
Anyone have a turntable in K-land? |

yes I wouldn't ship them over... i have actually seen a lot of good deals used (not in the shops mind). If you buy new, it is rather expensive.
In Japan there is a ton of stuff and I have friends who often get stuff from over the pond through other friends living in japan, much cheaper than in korea. (they have loads of good used goods too) |

dance related?? forget it - use the internet. but that becomes expensive when you start ordering a lot from abroad.
Other stuff.. like 1950s-90s (sample use perhaps, esp. the korean stuff which interests me) look in the big markets. namdaemun area including the underground mini malls are good places. as is the dongdaemun area. be prepared to do a lot of searching as they generally don't order them in any way. |
