Okay, simply put, i'm pretty big SoC fan....
And I FINALLY got a chance to SoC+Cities and Knights+Seafarers together.

Fuckin rad. Got me to thinking: Is it possible that there is a board game BETTER THAN catan?
I went through the list of games i've played

clue, monopoly: lick pouch......forget it

Metro: I suck at it and it's only mildly interesting

Blokkus: Good spacial awareness game; not so bad at it. It's ok

Trivial Pursuit: Wouldn't really call this a board game...

Citadels: RPG+building card game. Nothing too fancy. Reliable but not exciting really (and the students stole so many of my F*****ng golds!!!!)

Power Grid: I needed a 6+ person game. It was described to me as "the gamers game". To me that means, a lot of rules that are both necessary and unnecessary. Kinda convoluted but fun.

Puerto Rico: Definately, definately second to catan. I don't know if you've ever played this game but if you're a catan fan, you GOTTA try. I've seen it in about half of the games rooms i've been in.
It's a bit of a thing to wrap your head around for a couple games but GREAT once you get it going.

Does anyone have a favorite board game? What is it and how do you play it and is it in korea?

A Finnish guy introduced me to a very groovy board game here called Carcassonne. It's a blast, but you've got to have some spacial sense. Some board-game cafes here have it:

I find that Settlers is a bit dull, though I haven't tried all the extensions. I love the war games, like Risk and Axis&Allies. There was a real head-trip of a game called Diplomacy, which took out the element of risk, and had 20-minute turns for deal-making. My innocent-as-lambs/cunning-as-snakes routine worked for a while. Whoops! I'm so sorry! I didn't realize I was invading you! Awww, I'll make it up to you next turn... (*bats eyelashes*)

Before I came to Korea I was into World in Flames and Third Reich, real war games... not GI Joe action figures Very Happy .

Actually, played computer Axis and Allies. Was fun, but simplistic and rapidly predictable. Perhaps the expansions improved things as the computer game was modeled only on the original.

Also enjoyed Risk when I was a kid.

As for other board games, still love Scrabble, though I'm a duffer... and found Life to be pretty good (or was it Careers?).

Settlers of Catan is without a doubt the best game ever. In fact, I am playing it online right now while I cruise Daves. Carcassone is also a good time and better for playing with newbies because there's not so much explaining.

I second this. Diplomacy is by far the best board game I've played (If you don't count Go). I played it tons in high school and college. The problem is, you need a large part of the day to play a game and it is difficult to find people who are willing to do this. Also, the betrayals in this game are vicious and are know to have ruined many a friendship! Smile But if you like a multiplayer game that makes you scheme and think with no dice or other "luck" element, this is the best.
