FBI: Most Companies Get Hacked

Almost nine out of ten companies had a computer-security incident last year, according to a report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

After a survey of over 2,000 companies, the FBI found that 87 percent of those polled admitted there had been some type of security attack. Within that group, 20 percent claimed they had been hit multiple times by 20 or more attacks.

Most common breaches were either a virus or some spyware penetrating the corporate network. More advanced attacks, including data sabotage and port scans, were less frequent, according to the report.

Attacks came from 36 different countries, with the U.S. and China marked as the source of over half the attempts, although masking technologies made it difficult to get an accurate reading.

Watch Out

Hacked or attempted hack? Most of these sound like attempts.

Indictment: FBI agent was mob leak
Former agent faces four second-degree murder counts

Thursday, March 30, 2006 Posted: 1811 GMT (0211 HKT)

NEW YORK (AP) -- A retired FBI agent whose reputation was considered unimpeachable by colleagues was indicted Thursday on murder charges for allegedly providing tips to a mob figure who then ordering the killings.

R. Lindley DeVecchio cooperated with Colombo crime family captain Gregory Scarpa Jr. between 1987 and 1992, said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles J. Hynes.

Among the alleged victims was the daughter of a former top-ranking Colombo member, authorities said. Others included a suspected mob informant, a mobster targeted during a battle for control of the family, and a Colombo soldier considered a problem after he became a born-again Christian, Hynes said.

DeVecchio, 65, was expected to be arraigned later Thursday at state Supreme Court on four counts of second-degree murder.

His attorney Mark Bederow has said DeVecchio is innocent and would deny any charges "in the strongest way possible."
