Aren't they a) massive slave drivers (long hours, why are you deviating from the carefully researched material!) b) but at least pay well? |

I have a friend there now. They hired him straight from home, after he pays taxes, rent (not included in all contracts) and utitlies he walks away with 1.6. He works about 45 hours a week. |

Well I got an offer to work at that company a while ago and visited the place for interviews etc.
Anyway I turned it down. Even though the money offered was very good (3mill+) the hours seemed long, and in my opinion there did not seem to be much freedom in using different ideas outside of their "model".
Plus side is that they seem trustworthy, and reputable. but be prepared in working long hours, contained perhaps within a strict company "model method" in how you should work. |

Every teacher I've talked to from CDI all say the same thing: the hours are too long and the promised pay is way less. |

I work there. Long hours?? I don't think 6 hours a day is long. I guess the downside is you don't get a one hour break in the middle. Pay is pretty good. I think everyone starts off with 2mill a month, more if you have experience.
I think it really depends on which branch or franchise you get placed at. Mine's a small franchise so they really take care of me. But the larger ones I've heard are more stressful.
And in terms of a strict curicculum. Yea they got every minute planned out, but after actually working. I've found you go through a lot of the exercises a lot faster than you woulda thought, so there is excess time to throw in your own method or technique. |

1.6 for 45/week... yikes.
Yet I met a couple of people who worked there and were content with things, more like 2.5 or more net for 30 or 33 per week.
It could depend on the branch? There are a lot of them on that tree. |

CDI has a half-decent curriculum, researched teaching methods and a reasonable pay rate. Unfortunately, this is matched by an aggressive marketing drive with a healthy dose of BS. The result is something like a college jock with a new sports car. You get tired of it real quick.
Having said that, still a better place than many other hagwons out there. Just make sure that you check out your franchise and the director very carefully before you sign anything. Talk to other teachers there and listen to them carefully. If you smell a rat, run like the wind! |
