When I was a teenager, said the older guy, I needed to be cool. I had the influence of brothers and others around me. I couldn't be seen enjoying music that didn't accord with their opinions.

These days, who really gives a crap? I hear these old songs sometimes, and I like it. Ten or more years ago I might have winced, ugh, what a crappy song.

Now I feel nostalgic and like it. So when I hear the old Cyndi Lauper or Culture Club song I say, ya know, why did I dislike it back when? Well, times change and youth comes roaring into memory. And really it wasn't so bad then even. I just had the rep to protect, ya know.

You disliked it because it was, is and always will be trash. You can only deal with it now due to the knowledge that they got what they deserved...history has deeemed them silly. Kudos to your brothers for steering you clear of that stuff in your impressionable youth.

I hated Prince. Now I kind of like him.

It is ok now because you are not hearing it 20 times a day, like you were back then when it was fresh. I felt the same way about Nirvana and Pearl Jam, or just about anything that gets done to death.

Right now my school radio station, which broadcasts on the outdoor PA system for about 3 hours a day keeps playing Barbie Girl by Aqua.
If I only had a gun...

That makes sense. It's just nostalgia I suppose. Good to hear some old song you haven't heard in ages, but once or twice a year or so is probably enough for some music.

Agreed. I used to despise albums like 1999 and Purple Rain (for example), but now I rather like them, in a way.
