Hyojadong ibalsa (The President's Barber) is worth seeing.

I am sure it is completely historically inaccurate but it is entertaining and funny.

Korean cinema

S. Korean movies suggestions

Why are Korean movies so good and Korean music is so bad?

Some good korean movies?

Your Top 3 Korean Movies

Favorite Korean movies

I hear good reviews about Korean movies

What's your favourite Korean movie

Can anyone recommend some good korean movies?

This ...

... is the best Korean movie I've ever seen. It's called "Jeong," or My Heart.
If you can only see one Korean movie, make it this one.

Quote:
Like "Une Vie" by Guy de Maupassant, "My Heart" depicts the trouble-filled life of one woman. From the very beginning of the movie, which shows 16-year-old Soon-I's wedding ceremony to a child, viewers have a hunch that this woman is going to be unhappy and the movie will be very sad. And they would be right. Considering that the movie takes place between 1910 and 1960, when the country went through great economic difficulties, it's no wonder Soon-I's life is tough. However, as the movie goes on, viewers can amuse themselves with many unexpected humorous moments. The movie also provides a glimpse of every noteworthy aspect of Korean traditional way of life, such as pottery-making and marriage customs, and is filled with beautiful sound and images, as well as warm human relations. The movie drew awards from many international film festivals, including the Pusan International Film Festival.

(My apologies for the huge pictures. I don't know how to scale them down because I still don't understand this glowing box with the little people and pictures inside.)

Recently, this movie, called "Festival" (in Korean, "Chukje") was released on DVD.

It's great! I highly recommend it. It's basically about the life and, especially, funeral rites for a deceased grandmother.

It's a great window into a part of Korean culture that's not often seen.

Again, sorry about the huge pictures, but I don't know how to size them down.

I really recommend Lee, Chang-Dong; Park, Chan-Wook and Jeong, Seon-Woo(though he's not for everybody.)

My laptop doesn't have Korean font capability so bear with:

My Favorite Korean Films:

1. Peppermint Candy
2. Oasis
3. Attack The Gas Station
4. Geojitmal(Lies)
5. A Petal(Ggot-Nip)
6. Christmas in August
7. The Vengeance Trilogy
8. Happy End
9. Yeoja, Jung-Hye
10. Bungee Jumping Of Their Own

And a few more...these are all quality films.

Cheers.

I've seen 20 or 25, but I don't watch many anymore. I find a lot of them emotionally dishonest. 'Samaria' ruined my day once. I need movies with sympathetic characters.

That said, 'Memories of Murder' is a great movie. And I still want to see 'Oasis' and 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring'.

For horror movies see A Tale of Two Sisters, Into the Mirror, and the Whispering Corridors series.

The Pansori Movie mentioned earlier is Sopyeonje. (and a part II written by the same author and directed by the same director with the same woman in the lead is coming out this year). She is intentionally blinded so she can more fully realize the emotion of Pansori.

My favorite is Oasis. I cried so hard I was slapping the floor and yelling at the characters in the screen (thank god it was a DVD not in the theatre, huh!).

I have watched Oasis, Yeopgi, Jopok Manura, Bungee Jumping, Old Boy, No Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, Peppermint Candy, Foul King, The Silent Family, Gas Station, Wangui Namja, and more multiple times.

I own approximately 70 Korean DVDs many of which I have yet to watch, cause they are so cheap in China.

The worst Korean movie ever must be "׳ ־" or something like that.

"Peppermint Candy" is supposed to be pretty good as well as the "Good Lawyers Wife"

Interestingly enough the statue of limitations for murder is over or should I say up for crimes that occured when that true story "Memories of a Murder" took place.

The serial killer about which the film is all about is still at large, and now free.
