Not sure you can do that in Word, but I know you can easily in Paint

( start--> programs--> acessories---> paint)

You are able to add a text box with Word...go to Insert ---> Text Box. Place your cursor wherever you want the text within the picture frame. You will have to play with the font, size, etc. When you have what you want, go to File ---> Save As and name it whatever you want and save it wherever you want. Double-clicking on the edge of the text box will bring up "Format Text Box" where you will be able to do more things with it, like fill in the back ground or change the background colour. Play with it a bit and you'll get the hang of it.

You have many more options with Paint though. With Paint, go to File ----> Open and select your pic from wherever it is. When it opens, select the Text option from the left-side menu(the one with the "A") and then place your cursor where you want to type. When you have it the way you want it go to File ---> Save As and save it under whatever name you like and wherever you want to save it.

I made this pic a while back when a friend on another forum needed help taking a screenshot and drawing an arrow on it. It was mostly a joke, but it does go through the process. Here ya go, in case it happens to help. I picked the paintbrush tool, but if you wanted the text tool, it is the little button with the "A" on it.
