Two English teacher friends from Japan are visiting in Korea now. I sent them in a taxi to Hapjeong last night. In a hurry, they jumped out of the taxi at Hapjeong, in the process forgetting a shopping bag, with about 150,000 won worth of Namdaemun goods. I'm trying to help them recover it.
So far, what I've done is call a tourist information number, who passed on a national police agency phone number. I had a Korean friend call and report the lost goods, leaving a contact number.
Otherwise, I don't know how to help them.
In a city the size of Seoul, there must be so many taxi companies.
Anybody out there lost something in a taxi? Did you get it back? How did you get it back?

Hmmm... you/your friends can probably forget about the lost item... rarely do taxi drivers hand anything in.. often the drivers probably don't know about things being left behind and the next customer will probably swipe it.

Good luck.

Once, I left a shopping bag with some Levi's Jeans, and expensive make up(worth about $200) that I brought over from the U.S. to give to my cousins in the bus. I went back couple hours later to the bus terminal to see, if I can find the bus that I left it in, but I could not find it. Luckily, the bus driver saw me and flagged me down. Apparently, he found the bag and stuck around the terminal to see, if I would come back. I was very pleased to get the stuff back. So, there are honest people out there. I gave him a $20 U.S. bill, and he was pretty happy and he would not stop bowing and saying thanks in english.

I left my laptop in the taxi trunk last month. I chased the taxi for 2 blocks, and LUCKILY the taxi was stuck at a red light. I nearly puked from the running! I had a ton of bags from a visa-run trip and had to leave them at a bus stop.

going to the immigration office, I left my passport in a taxi. went to the police to report it. police spent about an hour calling the various taxi companies and taxi-driver unions, but no luck.
next day immigration office calls my school to tell me that they received my passport from the taxi-driver.
have a little bit of faith, there are honest people out there.

Left cell phone in a taxi once. Not only did I not get it back, but had to wait until Monday to have it shut off (this was a Saturday night). Apparently, the taxi driver spent the next day calling phone sex lines because when I got the bill there were W230,000 worth of these calls. I had to pay.

That's true. I once found a handbag on the back of a taxi seat and took it home. Once home, I used the mobile phone to arrange a return of the bag to its original owner. I knew that if the taxi driver had found the bag, it would probably not have been returned.
