Title says it all. Have you gained or lost weight since you got here as compared to how much you weighed back home.

I weighed 80 kg when I arrived in Korea. After about 9 months, I plateaued at 88 kg. The difference was significant enough that every person who hadn't seen me in awhile made comments about it, and you know Koreans. I didn't gain a few pounds, I GOT FAT! Haha!

The only reason I can come up with for gaining weight is that I started eating meat. Before I moved to Korea, I had been a vegetarian for a couple of years and was practically emaciated. The lifestyle change I made in Korea was walking more, which means more exercise, but somehow I still managed to pack it on. Very strange.

However, I feel like the weight I'm at now is good for my height of 188 cm. I was probably too thin before.

Q.

Eating meat doesn't make you fat. There are plenty of fat vegetarians. I'll shut up now before I turn into one of those anti-smoking nazis on the other thread. Embarassed

I gained few kilos in all the three times I have visited Korea. This is because I exercise quite a lot (ie. jog, gym, swimming, canoeing, etc.) back at home. But when I'm in Korea I don't do anything because Korean weather's way too hot for me to any outdoor sports... and I don't feel like going to a Korean gym to be stared at. Razz Besides, the local swimming pools are ridiculously shallow.

One rather funny thing about weight came to my mind. I'm183 cm tall and I weight 83-85 Kg. Just by looking at me my Korean friends told that I'm too fat and I should lose a lot of weight. Well, if you stare at BMI (25,3) I might look very fat in deed. But I have big bones and I've been going to to gym almost 10 years now. And who wants to be anorectic pencilneck in the first place? Very Happy Hey, you can't flex fat, now can you?

I think I gained a bit of weight. Although I did walk more and exercise pretty frequently (hiking and running) I ate a lot more junk food. Back home, my friends and I had nice apartments and houses to hang out at but in Korea, it seems like social activities revolve around going out for meals and drinks and dinner before movies, etc. I also ate a decent amount of "comfort food" and all the comfort food from back home in KOrea tends to be junk food. I'd never eat Mcdonalds or Pizza Hut back home but in Korea it's a different story.

Lost about 20 kg. The change was really healthy for me. More walking and different food were the reasons. Also, food servings are a lot smaller here, which is nice.

I've gained weight, but it's because of a rigorous weight training routine and high protein intake. I also do lots of cardio, so I've trimmed the fat as well. I'm in the best shape of my life.

If I could only cut back on the alcohol intake...it's my Achilles(sp) Heel.

I went down 3 to 67kg within a month of being here, and have since crept up to 75. However, due to having lots of spare time on weekdays to stop by the gym the amounts I can press, pull and curl have gone up a lot faster than my weight. I would, however, like to level off at this weight - perhaps cut down on the quantity of carbs that comes with a typical HS cafeteria meal.

Definitely gained weight.

I eat and drink more, so naturally I've gained weight. I eat healthily (very rarely junk food or pizza) - I eat lots of fish and veggies and fruit, it's the amount I eat that's my problem. I just love food too much. I live to eat - not the reverse. I could really do with joining a gym and losing some of it, although I do exercise a little (walk home from school, which is 2 miles or more).

I've cut down on my booze consumption; don't drink mon-fri (unless a special occasion) but in my first few months here I was sticking it away like there's no tomorrow! Shocked

I've gained weight. When I went home to Canada for three weeks in 2004, I actually lost a lot of weight. Personally I think it's something in the Korean beer.
