|
|
I have just been reading of the various health benefits of using Stevia in place of sugar or aspartame. It is suposedly grown and used in South Korea, but I have no idea how or where to start looking for it here.
Anyone out there know?
I know I can get it by mail order, but it would be a lot cheaper to find it locally.
Thanks in advance.

>. Good question Way Gook Saram. I've actually been wondering the same thing myself. One further thing Stevia apparently can be credited for is not only in stopping but actually even "reversing" ( if you can believe that ) tooth decay.
I'd definately love to find some of the stuff. What i should do really is describe it to my gf & see if she knows what the name for it is in Korean.

I asked my girlfriend and she quickly directed me to Lotte department store and a package of aspartame. Not quite what I had in mind. According to the information about Stevia on the net, it has been used in Japan for 30 years now, so perhaps it might be found in one of those international markets. But I don't have a clue what to ask for or where.
Anyway, if all else fails, I guess mail order is my next best hope.

I was once at this herb garden in the northern area of SK and saw stevia growing quite abundantly. So it is here, you just gotta find it. If all else fails, you can go up there and buy the plant then make it yourself. The place was called Herb Island. It isn't an island by the way but still an awesome place to visit.
Hope this helped at least a little bit. |

herb island is great. It's near Dongduchon / Uijungbu. There is another herb garden near Wonju / Heungseung that also has what you're looking for. They sell Stevia in a jellied form at Herb Island, mixed in with other herbs. Very tasty on toast, but limited in usage due to it being like a jam. |

I'd be interested in finding out too. Though I could get my agents in canada (aka the family) to send some when they next supply me with the necessities of life unavailable in the ROK. |

It's lightweight enough that I just order it online. Two boxes of 100 packets each cost less than $20, int'l shipping included, and I doubt any of the rip-off health food stores over here would offer it any cheaper. |

Just one opinion here, but stevia has a nasty chemical flavor, eventhough it's natural. The cloying sweetness lingers in the mouth long after you've ingested/swallowed the food/beverage. |
