Good news

He's on the case (of what!).

If it isn't the php Critical Error, it is the lag. If this doesn't improve in three days. I will start a letter writing campaign or just start a thread to get commitments from people to boycott: if they post something on that thread, that is the last post that they will ever have here.

I MEAN my words! I wanna have people look for jobs here, I want to get applications from prospectives (I am an employer), and everybody spend a lot of time on the forums giving advice or ranting even and occasionally go and look at an ad or two (mine especially).

Yeah, it's been 2 weeks since I got an email from "Dave" . He did say it wouldn't be easy to fix but..................2 weeks is an eternity / attornity in the technological land.

I did propose an "email Dave day" on another thread. It didn't last 10 min and was promply deleted. Might happen to this thread too.....?????

So much for a functioning, democratic, free "trade" website............

14 days later and I still got phpBB error 6 times today. It seems like Dave is just looking at it, but actually doing nothing.

When did the phpBB error become so bad? I can't remember experiencing these difficulties much in the year I joined.

I wonder if Mr. S's seeming lack of concern about this problem is attributable to the same attitude that I expressed just yesterday to a Korean client. I met with the staff of a big client (big on the corporate landscape, but a small part of our total billings, health, wealth or general giddiness) and at one point in the discussion about what they wanted and when and how they wanted it, they began apropos of nothing to give the Guru & His Motley Crew that cool, reserved, self-regarding "know your place/make us happy" BS. The same BS that every "Big Ugly Lumbering Brand-Name Corporate Korean Behemoth" gives to every "Elite Profit-driven Independent Free-range Little Squirt of a Company". Since ever.

This not being years ago when I couldn't really afford not to lick the right boots, and them not mattering too much in the estimation of our accountant, I wasn't inclined to fall in with the old Master & Servant capering. Nope, just couldn't muster the interest in another round of bowing & scraping. (You know, you reach a certain age when that's just plain hard on the back.)

Another thing that annoys me about them is, they have such a convoluted billing procedure, and there are all sorts of hoops we had to jump in the past, becoming one of their official registered payees, this & that. Hardly worth the hassle for what few projects we come in on for them. Even if I don't deal with it personally, I still have to hear about it, and it's annoying.

So, figuring they'd either show us the door for giving them such astounding lip... or else they'd adopt a more balanced tone, I decided I would lay out a few wince-worthy home truths for the kids (and compared to the Guru, that's what they are).

1. We didn't call you. You called us. Ergo, we don't need you as much as you need us.

2. I know the rule of the game for Korean companies: Promise your client the world and then don't give it to them. Look a little closer and I think you'll notice that I'm not Korean.

3. You've probably never heard this before, but I think it's time someone dropped all pretenses and told it to you straight: This is capitalism. In the final analysis, I'm actually NOT here to make you happy. I'm here to make me rich.

Could Mr. S be thinking #3?

Dave needs a new server, and we've been working on it last week. It's maybe more complicated than you think.

We're hoping to get it online soon, but Dave is out of the country on Friday, so it may have to wait 'til he gets back.

But once it's online, trust me - you will see the difference.

Has Dave been out of the country for the past couple months? These problems should never take this long to solve. I doubt it's all that complicated. I know, I was in the industry. Still, it's good to know things will change and if that is true, thanks.

Don't forget, Dave is a one-man industry with a lot of problems to solve and a lot of fires to put out. I didn't ask him, but I'm not sure how long he's been aware of the problem.

Also, if you were in the industry, you can appreciate how complicated the site is, with a new version of python on the server, and all its legacy cgi scripts and (relatively) modern php scripts. It's not like turing on a new tv - we want to make sure nothing breaks.

Are you guys and Dave doing it yourselves? I just figured you had some tech guys working on it.
