All right, I finally got Azureus and am trying to download a TV show, well, about 50 episodes of said TV show. The total size is almost 20 GB, and my d/l speed is only 80 - 100 kbps. Any way to speed this up?

you can choose to only download certain files...that way, you could get the first 3 quicker, and then watch those while you download the next 3....
depending on what you're using....bitlord/azureus/etc., i could tell you how to do it....
but as for getting it to go faster, it depends on the number of people sharing and how fast their/your connection is...
i've also found private sites to be way faster than public ones, especially if you don't have a superfast 10mb/sec download line. |

I'm using Azureus. And i did a test on the net and it said my download speed was 3500 Kbps. Azureus says the file has 4 seeds and 21 peers.
Does that help you?

It may not come much faster until you have more seeders. I've had stuff humming down at 350kB/s before, but that doesn't happen very often. I'm using BT and just leave it on the default (automatic) settings although there are choices for unlimited, dsl/cable fast, T1, T3+, and others. I'm downloading sth now with 40 seeders and it's only coming at 120...good enough for me. I've never used Azureus, but you might be able to play with the settings and see if that improves the speed a little... |

I think it has sth to do with our connection...wife wanted to save a bit of money by getting the cheaper connection from KT...as I said, works good enough. Among other sites, I tend to use Torrentleech a lot. Any better recommendations? |

It has 4 seeders and 21 people leaching. You have no idea what kind of bandwidth the 4 seeders have, but I'd bet that it's not much. In addition, you have to take into consideration the fact that some of the seeders might be capping their upload speed. Capping upload speeds is lame...but a lot of people cap it at like 20 or 30 k/sec. Now, the 4 seeders are destributing their bandwidth between 21 different people who all want the file...hmm......
I say, be happy that you're getting 80-100 k/sec on the torrent because the only way you'll get it faster is if you join a private site. |
