Public Schools pay according to experience and education on a scale from 1.7 to 2.2 million Won per month. The top-end salaries go to teachers with at least 2 years teaching experience and a higher degree or certification such as a TESOL certificate. Teaching at schools outside major uban areas will net you an addional 100,000 Won. Foreign teachers who teach at 2 or more schools in this town are given a car and 100,000 Won a month for gas and insurance. A recruiter can get you a deal like this, so you ought to do at least as well on your own.

Not true. Not always anyway. That sounds more like GEPIK or EPIK. I have no TESOL, 5 yars expeirnce though, and my salary blows 2.2 away.

not trying to brag, but look around because I was offered much more than 2 mill. The low end for the teachers the Gangnam office was placing was 2.4. This might be a special circumstance though. Is there anyone else in a public school getting comparable?

2.5 was the minimum offreed when I started back in 2005 with them. I started on 2.6 Currently Im on 2.7 through the Gangnam office. Automatic 100,000 won raises at renewal time are nice too.

Do you get housing along with that, too?

Yeah, I have a friend in Gyeonggi-do making a ton of money. He gets a housing allowance, which is basically a bonus since he has a place that costs less than the money they allow.

Are these the jobs you get by not using a recruiter? Lots of people here say that to find a great job you have to (1) know somebody, and (2) be willing to start yesterday.

I am going to go with a recruiter this time. I don't normally but they do have a nice neat job just up the road from where I live and the pay is quite good.

So you are getting 2.6m PLUS housing??

That sounds like a GREAT salary!

I am hoping to get at least that but with housing allowance included. I wonder how I can negotiate to get a higher salary Razz

Im getting 2.7 but thats nitpicking:)

I didnt negotiate. The original offer on Daves 1.5 years ago was 2.5 to 2.9 I think. I took what they offered though maybe I should have negotiated 2.9Smile

This is through Gangnam Gu Office, I would enquire with them.
