I bought a computer with a celeron processor...the price was right, but now I'm questioning my decision. When I try to run some games (nothing like starcraft, more like feeding frenzy-type graphics), the computer locks up and even AltCtlDel doesn't unfreeze it. I have to hit the reset button every time.

Any ideas on how to make it run faster/better? Or should I just trade it in and spend more money? Shocked

Yeah, probably your video card. Though, I bet your celery processor isn't helping the situation very much!

It's a SiS 661Fx. I googled it...I'm the first to admit that I don't know much about hardware....but it doesn't sound like this is the problem.

Bulsajo: I ran Belarc...

2.67 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
16 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache

??? Now I'm confused!! The OUTSIDE of the computer says "celeron" but it looks like I have P4!! Thought they were mutually exclusive!!??

Anyway...primary memory cache looks like the problem? Any way to increase it?

If your computer is reporting that your video card is an SiS 661Fx, then we just found your problem. That being the case, you are probably running the onboard graphics controller, meaning that you have no video card and the graphics are being streamed directly through your CPU. You see, an SiS 661Fx is a mother board model which, in your case uses mirage graphics.

From the SiS website:
Quote:
Immerging SiS' Ultra-AGPII Technology and the outstanding graphic core, SiS661FX is able to achieve a VGA Throughput of 3.2GB/s with DDR400, significantly transcending the former 2.1GB/s standard speed provided by AGP 8X. SiS661FX's superb ECLK and 1600x1200 high resolution can support UXGA TFT-LCD output and perfectly perform high quality images for 3D games.

I'm assuming you have a desktop computer. Why don't you just peer into the case and see if you have a video card attached to your mother board (MoB). The MoB is what everything is plugged into and you can google sound cards to see what they look like.

The new celerons use the technology of the old p4s. They revamped the line a bit and instituted that change. That would explain the strange report from Belarc.
