| I am from Canada and I have a valid licence from BC as well as an International Driver's licence. Do I still need to get a Korean driver's licence? |

| One needs a Korean license if one is a resident rather than travelling as a short term visitor, so the answer is yes. |

You can drive for a year on your IDL. Then they want you to get a Korea DL. I've heard getting the Korean DL is a hassle but I dont know for sure what it requires. Anyway, if you're not staying longer than a year, don't get the Korean license.
Honestly, the chances you're going to get pulled over here are minimal anyway, so... |

Once a resident in Korea (and anywhere else btw) the international licence is invalid for the country of residence.
So, as VI said, if you have an ARC, you should have a Korean licence to drive in Korea.
Useful to get anyway as it is recognised in most other developed countries. |

It's easy to get a Korean driver's license. Op, check out some of the threads I posted earlier, not all of them are about IDPs. |

Depends on where you're from. Canada-Korea reciprocity on licences is on a province by province basis, but I'd be surprised to hear that BC didn't have a reciprocity agreement. |

You have to get one if you are a resident, ie. if you have an ARC.
If you are just a tourist, you can get by with the IDL.
If your BC licence is still valid, you can just go and have it transferred over to a Korean licence. Takes 10 minutes, costs 15 bucks. Don't have to write a test.
Might as well do it anyway, it's good for 10 years! |

It's often not simply because the people here are fractious...

I don't understand how you can not understand, but perhaps you are smarter in real life.
In Korea, as elsewhere, if you are a resident, you must have a Korean driving licence to drive in Korea.
(Ker-iste, the Americans demand that if you move from one state to another!) |
