Actually, your planter box is about the size of the wall being proposed for the US-Mexico border.

Cool. That planter has a log cabin motif. Like your log cabin in Canuckistan.

James T, you're right, but the raised garden timbers are planed on 2 sides; the cabana is built out of straight round logs--from Tamarac trees, called Larch in the US.

I just built a matching, free-standing 4 x 2 planter the same way today (Lincoln logged). It's *%$!&! heavy!

Great effort, and looks great. I'd say you saved yourself a heap of money, and gained a whole heap of satisfaction too. My dad's a builder, and I've done heaps of projects with him, including garden stuff like that, and a mucher bigger higher retaining wall to hold in the side of a falling down hill, made of big long concrete inter locking bars, as we lived on a very steep section. Now THAT was hard, it took a whole summer, but I was 18 so I ate up the punishment. But always great to do something that leaves your place looking better, and it's great for the value of the place too. Looks like you'll need to get serious with digging over the backyard and adding some moist rich topsoil and then planting a better grass variety.
