Rotten to the Core?
"... According to a recent survey, as many as 90 percent of Korea's youth think they live in a country that's corrupt, and a considerable number of them say they're ready to join the club if the occasions calls for it later in life...."

Mute Whistle-blowers
"...What is most worrisome is that 67 percent of the respondents said they had paid dearly for whistle-blowing, facing discipline, discriminatory personnel decisions and the cold shoulder from colleagues. It is not surprising that the number of whistle-blowing cases reported to the Independent Commission Against Corruption dwindled to 36 in the first half of the year, about half the number from a year ago."

My thoughts?
"stealing songs from the west"....Have you ever downloaded a song/movie for free over the Internet? And you point fingers?
"korea invented corruption"...corruption is found everywhere there are people. I realize this may be a shock to you, but even in the West you can find corruption, yes really. |

Hey, he had an excuse--he was filthy rich. Those sort of people have a reasonable expectation that they're untouchable. |

I suppose you could do some digging and prove that that's true.
But, I will posit this in the mean time: every old citizen knows where to go to buy dope or a girl who'll turn tricks and these establishments are well established parts of the scenery.
How in the world, then, do the cops tragically miss them and never bust them. Prostitution is widely available in Vegas too, and the Vegas police have to be armed and ready with all the money swilling around those casinos, and yet they, too, tragically miss finding the places where this extracurricular activity goes on in the simple recesses of the city-scape. |

I used to think that homer and urban myth were just apologists. Now I think they are Koreans. Even apologists couldn't defend Korean corruption without choking on it. |

Who's defending anything? The OP wrote: "I think Korea invented corruption....what are your thoughts?" and Homer and TUM merely offered the perspective that Korea is not only not the sole inventor of corruption, it has some serious competitors for that dubious honor. |

poker player,
So..one sort of corruption is acceptable and another is just vile?
Who is defending something here..you or TUM and me?
The OP asked a question...we provided examples...what did you do besides try and take cheap shots?
Oh and how were we defending Korean corruption poker player? Really now, I am curious what your explanation will be beyond: "well..errr......arrrg you are an apologist and my dad can beat up your dad" |

This is a really stupid thread. They will all be pardoned, and then you won't even have an argument.
All will be sweaky-clean and A-OK. |

You're forgetting the big one in the US: Halliburton. And they managed to declare war on a country. None of the companies in Korea have been able to do that yet. |
