1) After school, a bunch of soldiers were swinging and sliding down the slide in the playground fully armed with M16's or whatever they have. They were also climbing the jungle gym. It was very strange to watch

2) 4 highschool girls going down the street with all their bags in a shopping cart. They said hello and I asked them what's up with the cart? They said that they had too many books so they had to load up the cart and go to school and back like that. Everything was too heavy for them. I say bye and continue on my way.

3) Four ajossis were sitting outside my hagwon BBQing and asked if I wanted to join them. I don't know who they are, and they couldn't speak English, but they were willing to share their soju and food with me. I couldn't as I had class right away. Too bad, could have used the Korean practice, and they seemed nice.

This is perhaps one of the reasons a person travels to an exotic country - you get to see things you may not see back home.

The whimsical moments make up for the more stressful experiences and make good material for story telling.

Very well put.

Even the stressful experiences are fodder for a life time of story telling. You know, some of the best stories begin with "the time I came close to dying in a small Vietnamese village (or fill in the blank) where I almost died of. . ." If it doesn't kill you, it will make for great drinking tales.

That's what I liked about living in Korea, I had many moments like that.
Makes it all worth it.

I was 'hikin' over a 'mountain' once and there was a little group of men dressed in the old way bangin on those traditional drums and drinkin soju. Of course they invited me for a drink and to hear their tunes. What a great moment that was.

So, Kim Jong il should just build a bunch of playgrounds and then invade, they would never know what is happening. I can see the headlines now "Extra! Extra! North Korea invades and South Korea's army didn't notice as they were preoccupied on the new playgrounds!"

All in all, sounds like a great day and definitely an interesting one!
