I am going to the immigration office tomorrow with my ex boss. He will cancel my visa then. The director attempted to take my ARC again, but i flat out refused. She claimed the card belongs to them, i told her in no uncertain terms was i giving her the card. They told me getting my visa cancelled would be all that was necessary, i wouldn't need a LOR.
Will immigration want my card tomorrow when they cancel my visa? As far as i understood, i have to hang onto this unitil i actually leave korea. I need clarification on this. Someone mentioned a 100000 won charge at incheon if i don't have it.
Once my visa is cancelled am i then free to seek other employment? I'm in quite a tricky sitution so i will explain. I'm due to fly back to the UK on Thursday morning as i need to attend a family wedding, this flight was already paid for by myself. I have a single-one-way flight back into korea the following tuesday.
My ARC is a multiple entry so if i still have it, i take it i can fly back on this? Another problem i have is that my passport expires on july 8th this year. I take it without an onward ticket and only 6 weeks remaining on my passport they wouldn't let me in if i don't have my ARC card.
Any advice greatly appreciated. |
Go with your boss to immigration to make sure things are done right. It is not your director's card, it's the immigration department's. Sorry, I'm not sure whether they keep your ARC or not, but I assume they probably take it. They'll probably also stamp your visa as being cancelled and put an effective date when you must exit by(2 weeks). It doesn't matter if your ARC(visa) is multiple entry or not...when it's cancelled, it's cancelled. WRT your flight, I recommend that you change the return date...maybe give yourself enough time to get a new passport before coming back(2-4 weeks)? Did you arrange the single one-way through another school or sth? Or, is it the return portion from your flight home? |

What happened?
You had said that they owe you 5 weeks pay; that means they are late in payment. Perhaps this is their way of getting rid of a teacher bcause they do not have the money to pay.
You will get another job quickly, there are lots of jobs now. |

| So, I really need to know whether my director cancelling my visa tomorrow will be sufficent for me then to start searching for another job. Or should i insist on a letter of release as well? From what i've read through on here him cancelling the visa should be sufficent. Can anyone clarify this for me? |

All you need is for your employer to accompany you tou immigration and cancel your E2. Thats all that happened with me, and I started the next job soon after.
The letter of release is only if you're going to immigration to cancel the E2 by yourself. Its just a letter that allows them to contact/ascertain that it is OK by your employer. |

That happened to me on my first job in korea...fired after 3 months. The employer was good enough to go to immigration to release me. Make sure you go with your employer to immigration or go there yourself and follow up that they called immigration to say you are not working for them anymore. Since you are leaving...just turn in the ARC at airport. I had a friend who left korea and was never released by his employer after being fired. He returned and had to work on a tourist visa until he got things worked out with immigration and the old employer. Were your fired because you were going to the UK? Good luck with the labor board..I keep hearing they side with korean employers. |
