I've seen this idea recommended before, and now that I'm in my new apartment I'd like to implement it immediately. There's a water cooler at the hagwon, but the secretary said that company's rule is you must receive 4 of the giant bottles each month, at 5,000 won each. That's a terrific price, but I'm not sure I can consume that much water each month.

Any and all advice, flames, and random comments or inquiries are welcome.

Q.

I saw the pulmone guy delivering water to a house across the street one day, and asked him if I could get one ( he had a truck full). After that, I just call him when I need a new one. Not sure if that's a special whitey thing, or just because I'm on a fairly regular route.

I had to pay a 5,000Wdeposit on the bottles, and 5000 per jug but thats still a good deal. I generally go through a jug every couple of weeks

If there are other teachers in your building and you all wanted to get in on the water thing, you'd probably go through at least the 4 jugs/ month

Pulmuone is considered to be a very good company for the quality of their products.

Most companies wil require you to purchase a certain amount per month, but if they visit your area frequently, you may be able to slip by with less orders.

hey q

we only get two bottles at a time, about 3 weeks worth, summer definatly only 2. do you want the cooler for the icy and boiling water?? or its convenience value?, you can buy hand pumps at all supermarkets that fit over the bottles or you could shell out some bucks and buy a fancy dispencer at a department store. dont know how much, we got ours for free frpom my old landlord! good luck.

The other option is a water machine thingy that filters the water from your tap. HomePlus has them for around 45,000 per month which includes monthly filter replacement & service.

I've been toying with that idea for awhile now. They have both the tall ones that sit on the floor and shorter, boxier ones that rest on your countertop.

It's not a "cooler", but a simple filtration system from Woongjin. They bring a smallish unit to your home, hook it to the tap and it works silently. It has a three-stage filter inside and a reservoir for the clean water. Refills pretty quickly and saves any bottles and such.

Doesn't cool the water, but it's small, cheap and works like a charm. Filter replacement every month is free with a one-year contract.

I'm not at home, so I can't ask the wife how much it all was, but I know it's reasonable.

yes

The prices are for ownership, whereas the prices in the smaller chart are first year / following years rental prices.

If you scroll down a bit on that website you'll see the ones that also cool/heat the water. So you have clean, filtered hot or cold water on demand. That's what I'm looking at.

The Pulmuone company in Gangnam were offering a free water cooler if you take 4 jugs per month. My wife and I took up their offer last year.

Before that we used a handpump to refill bottles.

Either way, it's a great service to have those big jugs (oh! Matron!....one for the British there..) delivered to your door for 5000each.
