I didn't personally, but I had a college prof who did. One of the finest teachers I ever had. Hunter has an excellent reputation. |

Hunter college is a part of the larger CUNY network of NYC. I attended Lehmen College in the Bronx. Each school is different and has different ratings depending on what you are studying.

I'm currently at Teachers College, Columbia U. and the Hunter Program, while not rated by U.S. News and what have you that highly is very well-respected by real teachers and real people. I.e., if you expect the name to mean anything in a wacked out place like Korea, you're nuts, but if you want to find a serious, well-respected job in the States or in an international school, a Hunter degree and education will serve you well.
I have two friends that will be starting the Ed program in Sept and one that will enter the Social Work Dept.
It is also one of the great bargains out there.
Cheers. |

How is that going? I applied last January for their masters in International Education program and am currently waiting on an admissions decision. What are you studying? |

I'm in the Social Studies Education Dept and it would be going better if my loans for this year had been all sorted. I am taking the year to put away some more money and do some research on teaching methods in Korean public schools.
Man, it's a great place, but it's a TON of money and aid is hard to get--I was awarded an 8 point tuition grant and I was still stretched. Hope you've been stashing your won.
The IE department has a good reputation, but it is harder to get into than the teaching certification programs. I have considered switching into the program for my Ph.D or Ed.D when I am done with M.Ed, but I need to do more research into it.
The area is great and the, get ready for this, administration and staff are top-notch and friendly. It's something about it being a school of adults. In a lot of liberal arts grad programs, the students never stopped being stressed-out keeners, but the people I have met at TC are dead professional.
Good luck with the decision, and look for a personal email, or a phone call to your permanent number. I was freaking out last March waiting for the notice when I was India, while the coordinator for my Dept had already called my dad's house in Jersey(permanent address) a few times looking for me. So, if you gave them a similar style number, and your family is as clueless as mine, check for yourself.
Good luck with it. |

Your friend should be fine if he or she is a native English speaker. If you're asking about a friend who is Korean and living in NYC, then he or she is in big trouble. My experience with international students is that they are aggressively weeded out of the CUNY graduate school system.
One of my friends (Korean) was told to "go back to her own country" by one of her psychology professors (this was a graduate level psych class). That teacher is now the Dean of Psychology for CUNY. This was about a year ago. |

Hunter overachieves in faculty recruitment/retention due to location. I'm not sure what old Gary Snyder is talking about but in-state undergrad tuition was about $1500 when I graduated in '95. |

Yeah, I read the thread. But anything Hunter expensive? Call up the registrar's office and ask them for their address, fax number, anything, and see what kind of attitude you get. |
