It's been a while (a few years actually) since I had a good recruiter rant.

Seems as if any Joe Kim who knows a few English words is in the business these days, and not doing a very good job either.

(forthwith a summary of recent events)

them: Hi, pls send your resume and your specifications.
me: sent. This is the location I need, these are the hours I'll consider, salary is of course negotiable, blah blah.
them: (pause of a week or two) Hi again, how would you like this public school job in Seoul.
me: uhhh wrong location and completely wrong hours but thank you. Actually this is what I need. (restates needs)
them: (another long pause) Hi!! I talked to this school in your area and they really want you. I'll set up an interview.
me: great, looking forward to it. Just tell me the time and day.
them: (two weeks go by)
me: whatever happened to that interview?
them: (pause) Oh, I didn't know you were still interested. But how about this position in the country, only two hours away by bus? really nice co-workers...pls get back to me if you wanna come here.

I heard these bizzare noises in the hallway so poked my head out to see what's going on.... it's a new guy moving in...

All of sudden this recuriter comes at me wanting to know where I was working, and how I'd got a job without him (as apparently he's worked some deal whereby he recuirts for all the city schools), and then when I was leaving....

My reply, well my school would actually prefer a teacher who is fully aware of the position and its pitfalls before signing on rather than being lied to by you and resentful for the rest of their contract.

It appears that these head hunters tend to advertise very appealing jobs
just to lure most applicants. I approach recruiters to inquire about the ideal
positions, notably in public schools. But, in most cases, when they get back
to me it's with a different, terrible job offer. I must always remind these jokers
that "this is not the position I have applied for" and must turn it down. And
,of course,they never get back in touch with me again.

That's because most of these recruiters aren't under contract with these schools. They just take what they can get from various, random schools. They're just out to make a quick buck.

Unfortunately, I don't deal with public schools, so I can't help you out. I suggest using a well known and reputable recruiting agency. Good luck.

Im getting the feling these people cant read.

I posted my resume. This is hat I specified:

1. Monday, Wednesday, Friday between 5:30 and 8 pm
2. 1:1 or small groups
3. NO HAGWONS
4. ONLY parttime
5. ONLY in Gangnam, between Gangnam and Samsung stations.

Yesterday I got a call from a hagwon in Incheon.
Today I got a call from one in Suwon.

I feel like screaming at these morons.

Essentially recruiting is a bulk type of business. The recruiter wants to try to place as many people as possible regardless of how hard they have to bully you.

Personally (and this is just me) if a recruiter acted this way toward me, I'd tell him or her to **** off.

My first job was through a recruiter and it was a huge mistake. The agency, went out of of business (or closed and changed their name) which I hear is par for the course with recruiters.

And they wonder why they get such a piss poor reputation. Because most of them are money hungry, lying, sons of ******.

Again, if they push you and persist tell them where to stick it. They don't own you.

I'm also loving the "hi, I know you said you lived here and wanted to work here, but could you consider coming to this city four hours away instead?" I keep getting, over and over and over again.

Oh, right, cause I was just making that part up about having my own place and needing something nearby.

Recruiters seem to be easily equated with the army...

....posting around school/uni areas...wanting you to sign up for great adventures, challenges, money...all kinds of perks....but once you are IN, their job is done and you are on your own....
