The offer below is one which I am on the verge of accepting from a hogwan. Before I do, I have to ask: Does anyone know of a better offer available in the next couple of months? If so, feel free to send me a private message. Even if your present teaching position is or former position was better than this one, please inform me so I'll know what to look for next time. Thanks in advance.

I would be teaching elementary school students & adults (last hour of class each day); 3 foreign teachers and 3 Korean teachers in school; about 86 hours of teaching per month, 21.5 hours of teaching per week (24 x 50 minute classes plus 90 minutes on Friday); working days: Monday through Thursday, 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Friday, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm., with every third Friday of the month off; 2.0 million won per month; location: small city (population greater than 100,000), with standard benefits----school also gives a stipend to cover basic utilities. (By the way, according to two teachers who are presently working there, the management and staff are very responsible, considerate, and respectful. The management meets all its contractual agreements and gives the teachers relative free reign with their classes.)

24 classes, plus another 90 minutes? That's too much. Shoot for under 20 hours, or bust!!

Teaching 30 hours or so a week in a hagwon is even more stupid, IMO. I'll never do it again.

Hold on a sec there Tex! 24 fifty minute classes a week is 24 hours a week....lets remember that the classes arent back to back there are breaks in between. Add in the 90 minutes extra on Fridays that makes a minimum of 25.5 hours a week. Thats pure teaching time....not a bad amount.

working days: Monday through Thursday, 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Friday, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm., with every third Friday of the month off; 2.0 million won per month;

IMHO that 1.5 hours on Fridays sucks the big one....instead of being able to go anywhere and do things you have to stick around for the piddly little class. IF you had the Mon-Thu 3-9 schedule for 2 mil I would say right on...good for you. With that buttwipe Friday class....I say no way.

location: small city (population greater than 100,000), with standard benefits----school also gives a stipend to cover basic utilities.

Small city...what amenities? Swimming pool? Gym? Places to go, things to see? Western restaurants? Shopping? Foreigner population? How long to Seoul? Donghae? etc?

That can be good or bad depending on your strengths as a teacher.

It sounds decent to me. Only 21.5 hours a week--pretty nice! Yeah, coming in for just 90 min on Friday would stink...but better than ALL DAY!!! Plus, you get every 3rd Friday off--cool! 3-day weekend every month!

Do you get 2 weeks vacation? Do you get the 1-year severance pay and pension and paid housing?

The hours are good--no morning classes. It sounds quite good to me, actually. Sure, you could push for more $ and a 10-hour work week, but you won't find it. 2.0 for the low hours and some paid utilities is great.

I worked 20 hours a week (Mon-Thurs, 3-8 ) for 1.8 and was very happy. The boss paid utilities (except for the phone), and all taxes, medical, etc. So I took home 1.8 every month. Your deal sounds very similar, and I think you could be quite happy with the arrangement. I haven't heard of one like this posted on Dave's for a long time. If the rest of the benefits are there (housing, pension, vacation, severance), and you have other foreign teachers to work with, I don't know why you shouldn't go for it. A lot of how good it will be is based on your attitude, so go and have fun!

I teach no more than 80 hours a month, earn more than 2.0m and my hours are 11-5, teaching time from 1-5.

It's an elementary school after school programme. Very new, so we are all learning but at the same time, we are free to do whatever...

I think you can do a lot better than what you have described.
